This study was conducted to derive the future direction for accounting education along with reflection on it and contribute to training world-class accounting manpower by providing the developmental direction for accounting education suitable to new accounting environment which is represented by information and globalization age. For this purpose, literature study and empirical study were conducted together based on traditional theories and a questionnaire survey was carried out from November 2005 to March 2006 aiming at 112 employees. Then its propriety was analyzed empirically.
The results of analyzing the questionnaire survey were as follows:
First, it is needed to strengthen accounting business education
Second, to teach general accounting useful to everyday life at a certain level, schools have to designate accounting education as a regular subject for general education so that those who do not major in accounting can also receive accounting education as much as it is not insufficient in everyday life.
Third, it is required to implement accounting education using information technology. In respect that corporations handle all tasks under computerized environment, it is needed to contrive teaching method applying information technology to all subjects.
Fourth, it is required to build up accounting ethics education. That is, it is demanded to grope for education to promote accounting specialists' functions and their social responsibility and increase ethical consciousness through school education.
Finally, accounting education for globalization age is needed. Besides, by strengthening cooperation between industry and academy, schools have to make efforts to increase the rate of employment, train specialists and teach general subjects.
The accounting education has to be interesting education including general concepts and scopes of accounting and it has to be implemented by involving its social function, accounting problems caused by globalization, advance in information technology and accounting, social status of accounting specialists, accountants' ethnical problems and emphasizing connection with adjoining sciences as well as organic relationship between several subjects related to the accounting. Furthermore, persons who have flexibility and specialty must be generated and grown spontaneously by providing them with chances to have wider and more diverse experience.
The accounting education can be developed by strengthening foreign language education in accordance with gloablaization, setting down communication skill and interpersonal skill as basic culture, and devising basic policies or improvement plans for education to increase qualitative competitiveness of the accounting education.
