This study is to investigate certain differences on the level of stress and the school-related adjustment with common high school students by sex and the level of grade for dormitory students at academic high school, also to investigate the difference of school-related adjustment according to the level of students' stress.
Sex, the level of grade and living in dormitory or not are for classification variants, stress for prediction variant and school-related adjustment for standard variant by the base of the previous studies and theoretic background.
There are the following hypotheses for aims of this study.
<HypothesesⅠ> There will be the meaningful difference on the level of students' stress according to sex, the level of grade and living in dormitory or not.
<Hypotheses Ⅱ> There will be the meaningful difference from students' school-related adjustment according to sex, the level of grade and living in dormitory or not.
<Hypotheses Ⅲ> There will be the meaningful difference in students' school-related adjustment between high and low group on the level of students' stress.
<Hypotheses Ⅳ> There will be the meaningful difference in the level of stress and school-related adjustment according to sex, the level of grade and living in the dormitory or not.
To testify above hypotheses two academic high school located in B county, Chungchongnamdo were chosen and 410 students sampled by groups were analysed. One-way ANOVA and multivariate analysis of variance by using SPSS/PC+7.5 program were used for verification of hypotheses
Test instruments at this study are as follows ;
Test of stress level used what Park sun-yong(1998) developed by reestablishing measure of Lee myoung-hee(1989) and Park young-ja(1990) and items which Lee kyong-hee(1995) developed, test of school-related adjustment used test instrument which Park yong-rae developed(1993).
Summaries of conclusion at this study are as follows ;
First, the level of stress by sex, the level of grade and living in a dormitory or not did not make a difference. But there was the meaningful difference that girl students got more stress than boy students on the level of p<.001 in a social environmental stress - lower variance of stress- statically , whereas dormitory students got more stress than general students on the stress of school-related and self-related stress. Between family-related and friend-related stress did not make a difference statically.
Second, school adjustment by sex, the level of grade and living in a dormitory or not showed the highly meaningful difference. School-related adjustment by sex in all the lower variances except school and friend adjustment among the lower ones showed the meaningful difference, totally boy students adjusted more than girl students on the level of p<.001 statically. School adjustment by the level of grade showed the meaningful difference in school environment and teacher adjustment of the lower variances, totally higher grade adjusted more than lower grade on the level of p<.05 statically. And in school-related adjustment by living in dormitory or not showed the meaningful difference in all the lower variances except school friend adjustment of the lower variant , totally dormitory students adjusted more than general students on the level of p<.001 statically.
Third, school adjustment did not show the difference between higher and lower group on the level of students' stress. School environment adjustment of the lower variance in school-related adjustment showed that low group adjusted more than high group on the social environmental stress. On the other hand, the school life adjustment of the lower variance in school-related adjustment showed that higher group with school-related stress of lower variance adjusted more than lower group on the level of p<.05 statically. And school friend adjustment of lower variance in school-related adjustment showed that higher group with friend-related stress in low variance of stress adjusted more than lower group on the level of p<.05 statically.
Fourth, the level of students' stress and school-related adjustment with the reaction of sex, the level of grade and living in a dormitory or not did not make a difference . In other words sex, the level of grade and living in a dormitory or not did not influence on the level of students' stress, but affected on school-related adjustment. The analysis of stress and school-related adjustment by sex, the level of grade and living in a dormitory or not showed 0.9% of stress and 14% of school-related adjustment.
This study concludes that the level of high school students' stress did not make a difference by sex, the level of grade and living in a dormitory or not , but the excellent school-related adjustment showed boy students than girl students, higher grade than lower grade, and dormitory students than general students in school-related adjustment.
