This study was aimed at recognizing the effects that art expression activity has on vocabulary expression on cerebral palsy students. As the case study was being conducted on two school female students and one male student with cerebral palsy who attend high school at the Y Special School in Yeo-su City, who have speech impediment, are able to use their hands in art activity, and have no difficulties in the sense of vision and hearing. The application of the art expression utilization program was held for seven weeks, three classes per week, which total twenty-one times, forty minutes per session.
The results that originated from these findings of this study which was conducted to find out the effects on vocabulary expression by the art expression activity are as followed.
First, the art expression activity program was effective on the acquisition and the maintenance of vocabulary expression of the students with cerebral palsy. In concrete terms, although there are some differences according to each student, all three of the students had shown a little bit of vocabulary expression before the test, yet the amount of vocabulary expression has made some improvement considerably after the test. Moreover, as for the maintenance test, the art activity program presented to have a positive impact on the acquisition and the maintenance of vocabulary expression of students with cerebral palsy, now that the amount of vocabulary expression was higher than before the test, and at the same time, it showed some similar effects to that of the after-test, which showed a small gap of improvement and decrease within 6.7%.
Second, the art expression activity program affected vocabulary change by object of each student with cerebral palsy. That is, student 1 has improved only noun according to the analysis of the distribution degree shown in the yield vocabulary data, student 2 has improved noun, verb, and adjective, student 3 has improved noun, verb, adjective, and adverb.
There are several restrictions to this study as followed.
First, it has been limited to generalize the effect of this study because the subjects of this study are not more than three students.
Second, it also can be indicated as a restriction not by presenting as the individual program meeting the individual differences of each of the studied object, but by presenting different programs according to the situation
There are some suggestions for the subsequent research on the basis of these results of this study.
First, this study was focused on the verbal expression on the basis of vocabulary expression that used art expression activity program. However, it is necessary to have wide-ranging subsequent studies expanded if there is a same effect on the vocabulary which is not accepted in language education for art expression activity and the free will utilization of acquired vocabulary in inartificial communication situation.
Second, art expression activity should make it possible for those students to recognize even one object in a many-sided way since it is the expression of intuition or inner world. In other words, it is necessary to educate them create ideas intentionally by subdividing them more concretely.
Third, related and systematic subsequent studies in a variety of education fields developed from research for the continuous several language instructions for students with cerebral palsy, which are applied to the art expression activity program.
