Skyscraper which is an outcome of high density and complexity of the modern cities has been changed by latest high technology. There is consensus, which the design of skyscrapers should be eco-friendly as the sense of crisis grows, boosting the direction of high technology to be eco-friendly. Since applications of those high technologies have been focused on middle and low-rise buildings, it's the time that active application of eco-friendly notions to skyscraper is neede.
A first began to address eco-friendly design factors in Ken Yeang's skyscrapers. Especially, structure of the void, a main factor of his skyscraper, and its function as a mediator between inside and outside would be focused on.
This study is on the basis of analysis of the literature which contains Ken yeang's architectural values, concepts of his works and his drawings with analysis of space.
The processes are following:
First, look into notion of eco-friendly void in skyscraper,
Second, analyze the theory of eco-friendly architecture and theory,
Third, analyze position, direction and morphologic characteristics of four cases,
Forth, analyze all factors in accordance with his theory.
Results are following:
1) The Skycourt connect several programs so as to increase accessibility, and its multi dimensional and even distribution boost its functional capacity and add flexibility to skyscraper.
2) As the skycourt is a mediator between inside and outsides, such as winds and sun, Ken Yeang could induce natural ventilation and lightening into the building with skycourts.
3) Also, vertically continuous skycoutrs could be a landmark in monotonous image of the city. Atypical feature of voids differentiate his work from other skyscrape
