The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of group art therapy-centered intervention program on improving isolated children's social competence through plays and group art activities.
The subjects of this study are four children attending a kindergarten located in Pusan.
The program consists of 16 sessions (90 minutes per each session) for 16 weeks.
The group art therapy-centered intervention program is implemented under the children-centered educational principle for a small group of young children.
In order to enhance the effects of the program, the subjects' mother education is performed during the same period.
The program is composed of the activities focusing on the social competence of the children.
Intervention targets and strategies for the subjects are separately applied according to the developmental level of their social competence.
The results are analyzed using statistical analysis of rating scale data and qualitative analysis of recorded data through interview, observation and video tapes.
The effects are explained through quantitative-qualitative analysis of the test scores, and event sampling.
The results in this study show that the program is effective in improving the social competence of all subjects.
Practical implication and limitations of this study are indicated.
In addition, future researches are suggested in order to expand the result of this study.
