The purpose of this study is to conform the effects of mindfulness meditation training on depression, metacognitive awareness and dysfunctional belief of the university students. 8 students out of 16 students participating in experimental group received mindfulness meditation training for 6 weeks by an meditation expert. However, Students in control group didn't have any treatment. They had one-hour group session every week and individual homework everyday. Each session consisted of twenty minutes walking-meditation training and forty minutes sitting-meditation training. They were taken BDI, MACAM and DAS to examine effects of meditation training before and after meditation training. We had them report the effects of meditation in a questionnaire after meditation training for 6 weeks. Students in control group were taken BDI, MACAM and DAS before and after this study.
The results were as follows.
First, mindfulness meditation training showed a tendency to decrease the level of BDI and DAS.
Second, mindfulness meditation training showed a tendency to increase the level of MACAM.
Third, the university students reported improvement of concentration, sound sleep, calmness of mind and reduction of stress after meditation training.
Finally, limitations of this study and suggestions for the future studies were discussed.
