This study is to analyse the effects of a programmed twelve week dance sport on over-weight females in their body-shape (weight, body circumference), body fat (body fat rate, skinfold thickness) and blood pressure and to offer the results as useful basic data in prevention and cure of obesity.
The subjects were 24 over-weight females and they were grouped into two groups: Exercise group and Non-exercise group, and each group was set to have 12 subjects. Those 12 subjects in the Exercise group executed a twelve week dance sport program 60 minutes a day 3 times a week.
The results from this research of verifying the differences in some variances among those tested in two groups were analysed through ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance) method and the conclusions were as follows.
1. Those in Exercise group showed significant changes in the body shape variances: weight, body circumference. Those in the Exercise group showed higher figures in the body shape variances.
2. Those in Exercise group showed significant changes in the body fat variances: fat rate, skinfold thickness. Those in the Exercise group showed higher figures in body fat variances.
3. There was no significant difference in the blood pressurevariance between two groups.
The research conclusively showed that dance sports have positive effects in body-shape (weight, body circumference), body fat (body fat rate, skinfold thickness) and blood pressure. Thus, dance sports are to be considered as a healthful program for over-weight females.
In conclusion, dance sports are of a proper alternative for prevention and cure of obesity in changing body composition positively and for health-keeping as a simple dance on its common purpose.
