In recent years all family members affect and are affected by one another and has led to the conceptualization that symptomatic behavior needs to be studied in context. Thus, symptomatic behavior in children may reflect some disturbance or dysfunction within the family subsystems. Therefore, instead of focusing exclusively on the individual traits of children when studying behavior problems of children, a more fruitful inquiry might focus on the interactional processes between parents and their children to child behavior problems.
The primary purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the way parents response to and the behavior problems of children and eventually desired to know which kind of complication were there the family eventually desired to know which kind of complications were there the family having children with behaviorally disordered.
For this descriptive field study, a couple of boys with ADHD and their families were involved. Both boys were in grade 4 or 5. Data was collected by not only a direct observation & a nonsystematic interview but having parents complete K-CBCL & WWPARS and having teachers rate the childrens behavior using ACTeRS etc. as well.
The results of the primary purpose indicated a strong positive relationship between symptomatic behavioral problems in boys and the styles of parents response. It revealed that ever such problematic behaviors, inappropriateness, inattention and misconduct were maintained and were more accelerated when parents responded with unsuitable ways to those behaviors like a corporal punishment or an unconcern. Above all, Parents should recognize compulsion isnt help, rather a hindrance. To help children who have severe behavioral problems may need not compulsive but acceptable approaches.
The results of the secondary purpose indicated all family members affected and were affected by one another. Without any exception, they had many-sided problems. First, It was found that parents experienced stresses from several causes as follows : 1) For the self-disappointment they are of perfectionist, 4) For the interference with their social activities or neighbors, 6) For the complications between the two owing to almost troublesome issues brought from their children.
Second, It revealed that children with ADHD also experienced stresses by not a few causes as follows : 1) For the sudden changes within their family members as divorce or remarriage, 2) For the quarrelsome home environment like marital discord, 3) For the feeling of rejection from the family, 4) For the self-dissatisfaction they are not able to control behaviors by themselves.
Third, It was found that normal siblings experienced a lot of stresses in both context, school and home as follows : 1) At home, for being behind concern of parents who always pay close attention to another brother or sister, 2) In school, for teasing & criticizing by peers or talking personally over brother or sisters problems with their teachers. Especially elder sister with symptomatic brother revealed to share so heavy parental responsibilities with parents as to have a heavy emotional burden.
Fourth, There were big differences how to overcome the difficulties between parents and children as follows : 1) Children are too young to deal with stresses by themselves. Therefore they drive problems into deepening situation rather than deal successfully with problems rather, drove them into deepening situation. Because children look stresses through colored spectacles, to ask adequate help for needs is not easy. Instead children may show behavioral problems. That means parents need to pay close attention to the behaviors what children do. 2) To Parents, esp. mothers, Faith were important as a means of settling stresses. Depending on Faith may let them be blessed with social emotional peace.
In conclusion, on this study, Stresses between parents and children were not different. If only a side of the two falls in trouble, itll be soon spreaded to the other side just like Domino game which is if one card falls down, the rest of cards follow the way one goes.
