This study was conducted to know the level of job stress and job satisfaction of counselors and to know the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction of counselors. Its purpose was to provide information required for finding a solution to minimize the level of job stress and increase the level of job satisfaction of counselors. It is also for the person in charge of Consultation Institute and Administrative Office to provide basic data for preparing improvement method by recognizing the risk factor of counselors job stress.
This study was conducted on 102 counselors who work at public institutions, middle and high schools, professional counseling offices, counseling offices attached to colleges and other counseling offices in Daegu-city, Kyungbuk province. Counselor general individuality questionnaire, counselor job stress measurement questionnaire and counselor job satisfaction measurement questionnaire were used as measurement tools.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, the level of total counselors' job stress was 3.27 on the average. The level of job stress about personal relations factor showed the highest.
Second, the level of total counselors' job satisfaction was 2.77 on the average. The level of job satisfaction in salary factor showed the highest and it showed the lowest in factor of job itself. The level of job satisfaction by general characters showed significant difference among groups in academic background and counseling offices. The level of total job satisfaction was the highest in doctors' group and the group of counseling offices attached to colleges.
Third, there was a statistically significant difference in total counselors' job satisfaction by the level of counselors' job stress. The level of job satisfaction of low stress group was higher than that of job satisfaction of high stress group.
Fourth, relation between counselors' job stress and job satisfaction showed negative correlation in all areas. Job stress was the most affected by economic factor, personal relations factor and work environment factor. Job satisfaction was most affected by salary factor, supervisor factor and colleague factor.
