Aiming to discover the life-environment factors that have influence upon a sense of depression in poor children, and to obtain basic materials for the enhancement in the mental-health level, it was surveyed, analyzed and considered which influence the factors related to the family-life environment and the school-life environment have upon the level of depression in poor children, targeting 129 persons in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades of elementary school, and then the conclusions, which were obtained, are as follows.
The depression level in poor children was relatively high level with 15.17 marks on an average, and the children who correspond to more than 22 marks, which are classified into the middle-depression group, possessed more than 1/5. The poor children were most negatively perceiving the communication relation with parents in a family-environment factor, and the friendship in a school-life environmental factor. The difference in a sense of depression in poor children depending on general characteristics was not indicated the significant difference in all variables, and it was not represented the significant difference except whether or not family after school, and the family structure, among family-life environmental factors.
The depression and the living environment in poor children were indicated the negative correlation between each of sub-factors. Among them, it was shown the highest correlation in parents' bringing-up attitude as for family-life environmental factors, and in the friendship as for school-life environmental factors. Also, in consequence of conducting the regression analysis by injecting all the sub-factors, it was confirmed to have the important influence upon depression level in poor children in order of a case to have dinner everyday, of friendship, of a case that there is always a family after school, and of parents' bringing-up attitude.
Based on these results, the approach plan for preventing and intervening in a sense of depression in poor children, will need to be attained with a comprehensive and simultaneous method that considered multiple-systematic influential factors such as the psychological and educational support, together with material support. First, it needs to be carried out a program aiming to enhance the self-expression ability and the interpersonal relations in order to make it available for forming positive friendship, and it is further required the activation of a program after school, aiming to enhance quality of life in poor children, and the expansion and the qualitative enhancement in the school food service with no compensation. To do this, it will need to be further specified the school social work that carries out professional counseling and supports. In addition, aiming to improve the relationship between parents and children, it needs to be conducted a program for enhancing family function and for parents' education. The approach plan for preventing a sense of depression in these poor children, needs to be attained the support centering on a family unit, together with the needs of diversified sights in a social-welfare worker, who can see interaction in an individual, family, and environment, in a bid to secure the integrity and comprehension in service, and will need to be further activated the closely cooperative system and the network activity in the private and governmental dimension aiming at more efficient support. This way, a plan for the specific practice aiming to prevent and intervene in a sense of depression in poor children, can be said to be the subject that will need to be continued even in a follow-up study.
