The purpose of this study was to provide the fundamental information for the diverse and balanced research development in the field of early childhood mathematics education by grasping the trends in the system of contents of mathematical education, the period of reform of early childhood educational curriculum, and research methods. The following research issues were established to comply with the purpose of this study: 1. What are the changes in the area of mathematics that appears in Korea's educational curriculum for early childhood? 2. What is the disposition of the thesis that presents itself during the 6th educational curriculum for early childhood? 3. What is the synthetic approach wielded by the early childhood mathematics education? A total of 36 dissertations of reference which were presented between 1998 and 2004 were used. The contents about logical and mathematical thinking methods were analyzed according to the classification standards by Lee (1990), Cho(1992), & Lee(1996). The results are exhibited as follows: Research, based on the principles of teaching and learning by constructivism, on the unified approach and the activities of the professors in early childhood mathematics was numerous, while the studies on basic statistics and measurement was weak. Since mathematical studies for early childhood is the principle content of the logical and mathematical knowledge, there must be continuing efforts to improve the education methods to be able to utilize diverse educational mediums, specific experience so that the children discover and apply mathematics on their own.
