This study suggests applicable possibility of multicultural education and offers basic materials for the systematic instruction at the childhood education as examining the effects of multicultural education with integrated literature and music on children's emotional intelligence. The objects of this study were 40 five-year-old children who were attending P kindergarten in Busan. They were divided into two groups : the experimental group(composed of 20 children) and the control group(composed of 20 children). Children of experimental group participated in multicultural education with integrated literature and music and children of control group just had talks. Research procedures of collected data were arranged by preliminary survey, pretest, experimental treatment and posttest. To test emotional intelligence, 「The children's emotional intelligence checklist for kindergarten teachers」 which was developed by the researcher in person was used. Data were analyzed by ANCOVA in order to the differences using SPSS 12.0. The result of this study were as follows : 1. Children of the experimental group who participated in multicultural education with integrated literature and music got significantly higher scores than children of control group. 2. Children of the experimental group were influenced more by multicultural education with integrated literature and music than children of control group on self-awareness and self-expression, children's self-control ability, others' awareness, children's control over others and relationship with others. 3. The emotional intelligence of children experienced multicultural education with integrated literature and music showed statistically differences between female and male students. That is that multicultural education with integrated literature and music had effects more on female students than male students. The results of this study showed multicultural education with integrated literature and music could contribute to increasing children's emotional intelligence. Consequently multicultural education with integrated literature and music will have positive effects on children's emotional intelligence if it is systemically utilized at the childhood education.
