The pottery is most connected with man's life among other archaeological remains which exist still now. The study of pottery consists of genealogy, process of formation, recording chronologically. Before advent of Wajil(瓦質) pottery in the Samhan Age, in the strict sense, a pottery was not distinguished between general pottery(日常土器) and a pottery of burial by archaeological phenomenon. Therefore it is true that a pottery is affected by recording chronologically of ceremonial remains like bronze remains, etc. Besides the pottery which is buried was not too much. But The Samhan Age, Wajil pottery which is new type pottery was started to bury in the tomb. In comparison with the past, lot's of potteries were excavated and then typical change was cleared. From at this time, a pottery became important data about recording chronologically with remains of foreign style which is buried in same tombs. Because of this reason, a pottery becomes the focus of study about archaeology in the Samhan Age. Surely, the best way to study chronology and social culture is the data which are buried the tomb, like to be made for a set of remains in good condition. It is difficult to understand a regional individuality by only a pottery. A matter of common knowledge, the standard of chronological basic is a tomb which was buried good remains, and made by a man of power. Also Wajil pottery don't stand for all area of the Samhan Age, we have not to overlook general pottery. So this thesis studies the step of changing, developing about general pottery from Yeonjil(軟質) pottery period to triangle clay stripes-period in South Sea-coast region.
Through division of each type of potteries, this thesis studies sort of type among each site, each region then studies what is regional peculiarity. First of all, while studying about pottery with triangle clay stripes-period's style. I conclusively could find same type in all of Young-nam, Ho-nam region. The only difference is, each site has little different type. It seems that it due to different habit of making-group of each region. For example, even though the pottery classified same sort, it has some different type among each site of a close distance, rather the pottery classified same sort has more same type among each site of a long distance. That is to say, triangle clay stripes-period in region of the Samhan, there are same culture about a pottery, so little diffrent type is minor phenomenon.
But from Yeonjil pottery-period, there are vivid difference of pottery in each region. It is various difference and equality at not only shape of pottery but also making-flatted surface technique, to consist of group of pottery. So Yeonjil pottery-period can divide three part of region to be based on above mentioned. First, region of East-South Sea-coast to include Busan, Ulsan, Kyoungju, Kimhae which was located to center. Second, region of West Kyoung-nam to include Jinju, Sachun, Kosung. Third, region of Ho-nam. Each region seems to more equality between the other region to be affected geological distance. Yeonjil pottery was changed, developed by new type making-technique to be based on pottery with triangle clay stripes culture. That is to say, it was strongly affected Wajil pottery. Wajil pottery is a kind of culture which is round bottom style. It mostly appears Young-nam. It is closely connected that Ho-nam had flat-bottom pottery culture but Young-nam had round-bottom pottery culture at that time. The point of time to start this change is presumed middle of A.D. 2C. It relates that conclusion of study about remains of foreign style in Neuk-do(Island) site and the end of period of pottery with triangle clay stripe. Only there are differences of 50∼100 year in each region. End of period of East-South Sea-coast region don't be beyond early 2C and Ho-nam region is middle of 2C as well. But the end of period of West Kyoung-nam region can be below middle of 2C or 3C. Some case like the pottery of Bongkyeri's style, there were strong feature of the plain pottery(無文土器) in West Kyoung-nam region, but same time, the other region had already produced Yeonjil pottery very well. West Kyoung-nam region is outskirts to be isolated by central area. Maybe there are many reasons, like a undeveloped iron industry and iron culture lead to difficult situation to be excepted trade subject by Nangnang(樂浪) which was gate of to import developed culture. It is same case that So-gaya(小加耶) was established more late than Kumgoan-gaya(金官加耶) in the Three Kingdoms Age. The study of general pottery in the Samhan Age nearly achieve process of developing, feature of region to except formation pedigree of pottery. Although this thesis is restricted by my ability, I wish to assist the study which is comparative and synthetic between Ho-nam region and Young-nam region. Also, if it should be continued to research and accumulate of data, it can be possible to more clearly divide territory than which I simply divide.
