The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relation between self-esteem, internal attribution for success and social support(support of father, mother and teacher)of children's achievement motivation.
The subjects of this study were 364 children who were selected from 5th and 6th grade of elementary school in Pusan and Kungnam. Collected data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 program. For data analysis, Cronbach's α, Frequencies, T-test, Multiple regression, Pearson correlation coefficients were used.
The major findings of this study were as follows;
1. The children group who perceived highly about the supports of father, mother and teacher showed high achievement motivation. And also each group of children who have high self-esteem, internal attribution for success showed high achievement motivation.
2. A path model of social support, self-esteem, internal attribution for success on children's achievement motivation depends on the gender of children.
In case of male children, self-esteem, father's support, internal attribution for success was directly effected his achievement motivation. The support of father, mother and teacher indirectly effected his achievement motivation through his self-esteem, internal attribution for success. In case of female children, self-esteem, internal attribution for success directly effected her achievement motivation. Her mother's support indirectly effected her achievement motivation through self-esteem, internal attribution for success.
This study gives more understanding of the relation between variables to increase children achievement motivation through examination personal and environmental variables related to children achievement motivation. And also give examination of the route to variables affecting children of achievement motivation for each gender of children.
