온머리(全腦)교육시스템에 의한 유아 두뇌 발달촉진에 관한 사례 분석 연구 = (The) Case Study of Promoting Children's Brain Development by Onmery Educational System

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 본 연구자가 운영하는 유아교육 현장에서 1999년 이래 5년 동안 진행된 유아 온머리교육시스템이 유아의 두뇌발달 촉진에 어떻게 작용했는지를 연구 분석했다. 매년 120여명의 유아가 온머리교육 과정에 참여했으나 모든 유아가 집중적 연구대상이 될 수는 없었다. 두뇌발달 촉진이란 교육목표를 성취해 나가는 과정에서 교사의 역할도 중요했지만 부모의 역할이 훨씬 더 크게 작용한다는 사실을 발견했기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구의 집중연구대상은 가정에서 부모가 온머리교육 과정에 많은 관심을 가지고 적극 협조하면서 온머리교육시스템의 원리에 따라 유아의 두뇌발달 촉진에 필요한 온머리교육프로그램이 실행된 만 3∼5세의 유아들인데 그들 중에서 2003년 2월 27일부터 2003년 9월 30일까지 약 7개월 동안 온머리 교육과정에 참여하고 표본집단으로 선정된 44명의 5세 유아들인데 그들 중에서 2003년 2월 27일부터 2003년 9월 30일까지 약 7개월 동안 온머리교육과정에 참여하고 표본집단으로 선정된 44명의 5세 유아들이다.
연구결과는 '물과 아이는 트는 대로 간다.'는 격언이 암시하듯 유아의 두뇌발달은 부모와 교사가 유아에게 제공하는 두뇌발달촉진자극제인 다양한 경험과 학습의 양과 질에 따라 좌우됨이 입증되었다. 그리고 이 과정에서 간과해서는 안 될 것은 '애착의 형성과정'을 소홀히 해서는 안 된다는 점이었다. 유아들은 본능적으로 학습과 놀이에 적절한 관계 상황을 찾는다. 따라서 유아들이 호기심 있고 자신 있으며 유능한 학습자로 성장하도록 돕는 최선의 방법은, 그들을 온정적이고 일관성 있게 보살펴서 유아들이 보육자와의 안정된 애착을 형성하게 하는 것이라는 점도 입증되었다.
본 연구의 궁극적인 목적은 온머리교육 방식이 유아의 두뇌발달 촉진에 어떻게 기여하여 유아의 좌뇌와 우뇌가 균형과 조화를 이루며 지속적으로 발달해 나가게 하느냐 하는데 있다. 좌뇌와 우뇌가 균형이 잡힌 통합뇌형(온머리형)이 반드시 학업성취, 창의성 등 모든 면에서 비통합형(좌뇌중심형 또는 우뇌중심형)에 비해 높은 적응력을 가지고 있다고 단정할 수는 없지만 온머리형이 되려는 노력이 두뇌발달에 매우 고무적인 시너지효과를 가져옴은 부정할 수 없는 사실로 인정되고 있다(Grady, 1978).
그리고 본 연구는 연구결과를 측정하는 도구의 중요성을 재인식하게 되는 계기를 맞게 된다. 측정도구로 사용한 BPI진단 프로그램은 유아의 두뇌발달상황의 원인과 결과를 논리적으로 밝히는데 효율적이었으며 측정결과의 타당성과 유아 온머리교육의 두뇌발달 촉진 효과를 부모로부터 인정받는데 적절하고도 설득력 있는 척도가 되었다.
비록 본 연구가 연구자의 유아교육기관이란 제한된 공간에서 진행되었지만 유아 온머리교육시스템이 유아들의 두뇌발달성향을 측정하고 이를 근간으로 하여 두뇌발달촉진교육을 실행한바 유의할 만한 결과를 도출할 수 있었다. 그리고 본 연구과정에서 유아교육의 중요한 요체는 얼마나 오랫동안, 얼마나 많은 경험과 학습을 하게 하느냐의 문제가 아니라 보육자(부모 또는 유아교사 등)가 어떻게 유아와 안정된 애착관계를 형성하면서 두뇌발달단계에 맞는 교육을 할 수 있느냐의 문제임을 재인식하게 되었다.
사람의 두뇌는 두 살 무렵에 성인의 두 배 만큼 활동적이다. 그리고 대사율은 계속 증가하여 3살 무렵에는 성인의 두뇌보다 두 배 반 이상 활동적이 된다. 그리고 그런 상태가 이후 7년 동안 계속된다. 성인의 두뇌와 비교할 때 아이의 두뇌는 시냅스 형성에 중요한 역할을 하는 신경전달물질 수준이 높다. 시냅스 밀도, 포도당 이용 및 신경전달물질 수준과 같은 모든 요소들이 생후 10년 동안 높은 수준을 유지하고, 사춘기에는 줄어들기 시작한다. 이것은 특히 영유아기가 학습을 위한 고조기임을 시사하고 있음이다(Chugani, H. T., 1997).
온머리교육시스템은 이와 같이 두뇌발달의 고조기에 있는 유아들의 두뇌를 BPI진단결과에 따라 두뇌발달단계에 맞춰 좌뇌와 우뇌가 균형과 조화를 이루며 발달이 촉진되게 하는데 그 의의가 있다. 이러한 노력이 모아져서 유아교육의 새로운 패러다임을 세워 나가는데 다같이 정진해야 될 때가 되었다고 생각한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

I studied and analyzed how the children's brain development was accelerated by the Onmery educational system which has been maintained in the children's education facility of mine for 5 years since 1999. Every year about 120 kids took part in Onmery educational procedure, but all of them could not be the object of the study. For We found that the role of parents was more important than that of teachers in the course of achieving the aim of the brain development acceleration. So the main objects of the study were 5 years old 44 kids, joined in Onmery Educational course for about 7months from February the 27th, 2003 to September the 30th, 2003 and chosen as a sampling group, whose parents were actively interested in Onmery educational procedure and educated them according to Onmery educational program.
The result of the study shows that the brain development of the kids are affected by the brain development acceleration stimulus, various kinds of studies and experiences, given by teachers and parents, like the Korean saying, 'Water and kids go by the guided way.' And I think that we shouldn't neglect 'the procedure of attachment formation.' Kids look for the relation situation between study and play by nature. Thus, we must help kids make the comfortable attachment to upbringing people by taking care of kids with love and principle, to nurture them as curious, self-confident and capable students.
The final purpose of this study is to find how the Onmery educational system accelerates the kid's brain development and enables kids to keep the balance between left brain and right brain. Symmetry brain type(Onmery type) is not necessarily superior to asymmetry brain type(the left brain-centered type or the right brain-centered type) in the study satisfaction, the originality and so on, however, it is important that the effort to become the Onmery type brings about the great effect(Grady, 1978).
And through this study, I recognized the importance of the device to measure the result of the study. BPI test program, the measure device helped to find the cause and the result of the kids' brain development situation logically and inform parents of the brain development acceleration effect properly.
Even if this study was proceeded in the restricted place, kids education facility of mine, I could get the significant result by testing kids' brain development inclination and carrying out the brain development education through the Onmery educational system. And I was able to recognize that the important point in kids' education is not how long or how much they experience and study but how they have the comfortable attachment relation with upbringing people (parents or teachers) and are educated according to the brain development stage.
The brain of two-year old kids is twice as active as that of adults. And the brain of three-year old kids comes to be twice and a half as active as that of adults. Then, the condition proceeds for 7 years. The nerve passing substance of kids' brain, which take the important role in forming synapse, is superior to that of adults' brain. Synapse density, dextrose usage, and the nerve passing substance are kept in high level for 10 years since the birth, and begin to decrease from arriving at puberty. This says the period of infants and kids is the best period for the education.(Chugani, 1997)
Like this, Onmery Educational System has significance in promoting the kid's brain development, in the best period for the brain development, according to the step of the brain development in consideration of the results of BPI test, to keep the balance and harmony between the left brain and the right brain. And now I think it is the time to apply ourselves to building a new paradigm for children's education.
