Conjoint analysis is a decompositional method that estimates the structure of a consumer''''s preference, given his or her overall evaluation of a set of alternatives that are described in terms of levels of different attributes. Since the early 1970s, conjoint analysis has received considerable academic and industry attention as a major set of techniques for measuring consumers'''' tradeoff among multiattributed products and services.
Because conjoint analysis usually is carried out at the individual level rather than at the aggregate or segment level, significant improvements in predictive validity are obtained. As a model for predicting choice, the value of conjoint analysis is based on its cumulative record of providing meaningful and timely forecast of consumer choice.
This study is to understand overall steps of conjoint analysis by conducting the analysis directly. In this study, given data on printer with four determinant attributes (price, brand, paper handling, speed) and four or three levels per attribute was used to conduct the conjoint analysis.
Through this case study, the optimal conjoint design profiles were found. And the important factors that influence consumers'''' purchasing decision were provided using part-worth utilities of individual respondent from results of the analysis. In order to understand the features of market segments, hierarchical cluster analysis was conducted. Then choice simulation and conditional logit analysis were conducted to predict the market share of the profiles for the conjoint analysis.
