Recently the interest in service quality has increased exponentially. Also, there now have been many conceptual articles written on service quality, and even a few empirical research results published. So, service quality has become a top priority and a significant competitive issue. Service quality is essential to success in today's business environment.
Service quality is a construct that is difficult to define and measure. Service have unique features, which makes the measurement of quality a complex issue. In the absence of objective measures of service quality, a more quality subjective approach, measuring consumers' perceptions and expectations of quality, is appropriate.
The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding and exploring how service quality is perceived and measured by the customers. Services quality is viewed as the degree and direction of discrepancy between customer's perceptions and expectations.
Gronoos(1982) suggests that service quality is composed of the technical quality and functional quality, and that the functional quality is a relatively more significant determinant to the perception of service quality than the technical quality.
The measurement of service quality have received a lot of attention in recent marketing literature. Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry(1985) developed SERVQUAL measurement to measure service quality. However, Cronin and Taylor(1992) questioned the relevance of the expectations-perceptions gap as a basis for measuring service quality and suggest a simple performance-based measure of service quality, named SERVPERF, as more appropriate.
This study examines the relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction in Korean business high school education. To do so, prior studies on services quality and customer satisfaction were broadly reviewed and relationship between those two concepts were empirically tested. The literature shows that these constructs are clearly different. The most common explanation of the difference is that perceived service quality is a form of attitude and consumer's long-run overall evaluation of service, whereas customer satisfaction is a transaction-specific measure and consumer's emotional feeling after purchase.
This study examined and analyzed empirically service quality on Korean business high school.
The analysis results are as follows.
First, the measuring method of simple performance(SERVPERF) is more efficient than the performance-expectation approach(SERVQUAL) in operationalizing the measurement of service quality.
Second, service quality is affected by the functional quality than the technical quality.
Third, it is confirmed that perceived service quality affects customer satisfaction.
Forth, there is no significant difference in the expected service of teachers versus students.
Fifth, there is significant difference in the perceived service, overall service quality, and customer satisfaction of teachers versus students.
Sixth, the level of expected service is very high. However, the level of perceived service, overall service quality, and customer satisfaction is low.
