학부제 하에서의 대학무용 현황 및 운영특성 분석 = The Comparative Analysis of Dance Programs and their Operational Characteristics under the School System in Selected Universities

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of the paper is to address and analyze dance education programs in universities under the school system. Among forty five universities that have dance departments or programs in Korea, six of nine that open dance programs under the school system are selected for the research. The paper focuses on whether similarities and differences of school structure, curriculum, and requirements exist or not. The major findings are as follows: First, dance programs under school system can be distinguished into two categories, college or dance division under college or school. Secondly, declaration of major is not available at this moment, thirdly, dance programs in selected universities offer interdisciplinary programs that integrates the study of dance within a liberal arts setting of intellectual and creative exploration in first or second year. And the major builds upon dance technique courses, workshops as well as a rich array of dance studies courses, allowing students`` creative work. Finally, credits required to complete the four-year dance degree are between about 130 and 140. Through the analysis, both similarities and differences in curriculum, requirements, credits, and operation of school system are identified, which can be explained by the perspective of New Institutionalism. Institutional isomorphism is a very useful concept which explains why so many institutions or organizations end up having the same organizational structure (isomorphism) even though they have evolved in different ways. There are three main types of isomorphism: normative, coercive and mimetic. Among them, coercive isomorphism such as governmental mandates, financial aid and reporting requirements is a critical factor that makes dance programs under the school system increasingly homogeneous.
