생애사 연구방법론의 이론적 배경과 분석방법에 대한 탐구 = Inquiry to the Theoretical Backgrounds and Analysis of the Life History Method

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this paper is to investigate analysis methods and theoretical backgrounds of the life history method(LHM) to activate life history research in education. Specifically, this paper illuminates historical development, concept, and methodological characteristics of life history for scrutinizing theoretical backgrounds of the LHM. Also, this paper codifies analytic unit and analysis methods for elaborative analysis of life history text. The specific results and conclusions are as follows: First, the LHM, which is based on interpretative perspectives had ups and downs according to historical contexts. However, the LHM has deepened ontological and epistemological premise because of postmodernism. The LHM has focused on the personal life story as a window and entrance to inquire social conditions. The LHM stressed co-construction of knowledge between researcher and participant. Also, the LHM was characterized by contextuality, narrativity, relationality, and humanization. Second, the temporality as axis of time was an useful analytic unit for obtaining holistic perspective. Third, the analysis methods of life history text were composed of categorical-content approach, holistic-form, and discourse analysis. The results of this paper will clarify ontological and epistemological premise of the LHM. Also, this paper will introduce methodological guideline and technique to novice researchers through suggesting analytic unit and analysis methods of life history text.
