사회자본이 교육성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 -사교육의 매개효과를 중심으로- = The Effects of Social Capital on Educational Performance: Focused on the Mediating Effect of Private Education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of social capital on educational performance. Additionally this study examines the mediating effect of private education on educational performance, and compares the relative importances of these factors. For this study, a survey was conducted on middle and high school students in Seoul from May to June, 2009. The results show that. first, the family social capital structure and process, the school social capital process, and the community social capital process directly and indirectly affect educational performance. Second, the relative effects among the social capital variables that affect educational performance directly and indirectly ordered as follows: family social capital process(β=.238), community social capital process(β=.209), family social capital structure(β=.206), school social capital process(β=.130), and school social capital structure(β=-.012). Finally, private education as an isolated parameter has a directly negative effect on educational performance, but when combined with the family social capital structure and process, the school social capital process, and the community social capital process, it turns out that private education has a positive effect on educational performance. These results imply that policy makers should increase the social capital instead of private education to improve the educational performance of middle and high school students.
