어머니의 정서사회화 행동이 아동의 정서조절방략에 미치는 영향 : 공감의 매개효과 = Effects of Mothers` Emotion-Related Socialization Behaviors on Children`s Emotion Regulation Strategies : The Mediating Role of Empathy

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationships among mothers’ emotion-related socialization behaviors, children’s empathy and emotion regulation strategies and to test the mediating effect of empathy between two other variables. The survey with questionnaire was conducted with 309 children of grades 4, 5, and 6 from elementary schools in Daegu. Maternal socialization behaviors were measured by the short form of the Self-Expressiveness in the Family Questionnaire and the Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale. Children’s empathy and emotion regulation strategies were measured by the Interpersonal Reactivity Index and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. The main results were as follows. First, mothers’ supportive socialization behaviors influenced significantly children’s empathy and emotional-regulation strategies: Mothers’ expression of positive emotions and supportive responses to children’s negative emotional expressions explained children’s cognitive empathy and the use of reappraisal strategy. Second, children’s empathy influenced significantly the use of emotion-regulation strategies: Children’s cognitive empathy explained the use of reappraisal strategy. Finally, empathy mediated the relations between mothers’ socialization behaviors and children’s use of emotion-regulation strategies: Cognitive empathy mediated the relations between mothers’ expression of positive emotions and mothers’ supportive responses to children’s negative emotional expressions and the children’s use of reappraisal strategy.
