Reviewing the awareness of communication frequency and attitudes with teachers of mothers, who has theirs children to go infant care center, this study is to understand communication frequency and attitudes of mothers according to the social and demographic change causes and status characteristics.
Through this study, the necessity and importance of communication between mothers and teachers are recognized one more time and further, it is the goal of this study to provide the basic material to keep the cooperation between them for positive infants and children development.
Following issues for the study subject were selected according to the purpose of the study.
First, what is current situation of communication frequency and attitude between mothers and teachers.
Second, what is the current situation of communication frequency and attitude between mothers and teacher according to social and demographic change causes of mothers.
Third, the relationship of communication frequency and attitude between mothers and teachers was studied.
Focusing in Seoul area, 257 mothers who have their children go to kinder gardens or child care houses were selected as target samples and survey was conducted.
As for the study measurement tools, the communication frequency is measured with modified communication frequency questionnaire form originated by Werthein(1994) was used. The communication attitude is measured with translated version(2001) of communication attitude questionnaire form originated by Wethein(1994) was used.
SPSS 19.0 was used to analyze the data and to find out the normal characteristics of research objects, frequency analysis and technology statistics were conducted. Then drew out Cronbach a from each research tool. Correlation, t-Test, ANOVA were conducted to find out the differences in communication method according to the normal characteristics between mothers and teachers, subject frequency and attitudes.
The major outcomes of the study are as follow:
First, reviewing the communication frequency and attitude between mothers and teachers, communication frequency is divided into subject-oriented communication frequency and type-oriented communication frequency.
Regarding subject-oriented communication frequency in child care center, it turned out that child’s dietary life was the most frequent communication subject followed by child’s life oriented subjects.
This fact verifies that parents want to communicate the directly related matters of child. Parents/family related matters are not much communicated with teachers as the parents consider that those are not directly related with teachers.
Between mothers and teachers, frequency of the type-oriented communication frequently occurs during the transportation time when children go to child care center or back from child care center.
Such results can easily be expected because the most communication occurs naturally or without separate appointments during children transportation time as it is normal daily routine.
Therefore, for the benefit of mothers, the result suggested that mothers who let the child ride on child care center shuttle by oneself should try to keep the communication with the teacher aggressively along with other necessary methods
About the communication attitude between mothers and teachers, overall positive communication with teachers was shown.
Mothers aware of the importance and necessity of communication with teachers and satisfies with the information from the communication.
As it was shown that the communication satisfaction and recognition of teachers are the lowest, it can be said that communication attitude of teachers is quite unsatisfactory.
Therefore, teachers at child care center must try to find out a way to keep quality and efficient communication methods with mothers.
Second, the results of the current situation of the communicate frequency and attitude according to mother’s social and demography changes and status chracteristics(mother’s age, education, job status, genders of children, ages of children, orders of birth, types of infants care centers, attending time for center, methods of transportation) showed quite significant differences after close observation.
Such results revealed that communication frequency of mother is afftected by social and demographic change causes. Therefore, understanding the causes of mother’s social and demography changes and status characteristics, teachers must find a efficient communication method while communicating with mother.
As a result from observation of communication attitude according to mother’s social and demographic change causes and status characteristics, the significance was found for different age level of the children. It was found that those mothers whose children attend infants care center for the first time and are 3 years old, the age to enroll kinder garden, and 5 years old, the age enroll elementary school, communicate quite a lots about children’s growth/infants development and family affairs.
And, in communication attitude, it was also shown that those parents whose children spend quite a time at child care center communicate more about children’s growth/infants development and family affairs than about the other matters.
This kind of results suggest that more female social activities, the role of child care center is getting more importance as economic activities of mothers are getting popular.
Third, observing the relationship between communication frequency and attitude between mothers and teachers, significant correlations were found between mothers and teachers communication frequency and attitude.
It was found that the more communication mothers have with teachers, the more positive communication attitude mothers have.
Therefore, teachers must draw out more positive communication by finding more efficient communication method with mothers.
