영화를 활용한 미디어 리터러시 기반 지리학습 방법 고찰 -스텝업 4: 레볼루션을 사례로- = Geography Lessons Based Media Literacy Using Movies -A Case of Step up 4: Revolution-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to explore the ways for planning and teaching and learning geography lessons using movies for fostering media literacy. To teach and learn unit ‘urban redevelopment’ of Korean geography textbook in high school, the lessons use the movie ‘Step Up4: Revolution’ to apply media literacy strategy. The lessons focus for students not to watch the movie but read and interpret geographical phenomenon represented in the movie. Thus the teacher gave students well-framed worksheets, and they analyzed physical and human environment, characters, conflict and its resolution surrounding urban redevelopment from scenes in movie using them. most of students was very interested in the lessons and engaged in media literacy strategy. The result showed that most of students expressed very well physical and human features in landscapes represented in the movie. But They found grasping groups` conflict and its resolution surrounding urban redevelopment difficult. One of the reasons is that students is absorbed in characters`s dance and misses deep massages behind the dance. Thus for fostering high-order media literacy to students, the lessons using a media relevant geographical topics have to continue.
