Good Laboratory Practice Requirements in Oriental Pharmacy
Seo, Min-Jun,Lee, Jae-Jun,Park, Jin-Han The Korean Society of Oriental Pharmacy 2008 Journal of oriental pharmacy Vol.1 No.1
Good Laboratory Practice(GLP) is becoming more and more important in the research and development of Oriental Pharmacy(OP) and its globalization. If a OP product is to be registered as Over-the-Counter(OTC) drug and enter international markets, the safety and efficacy studies conducted according to GLP requirements is necessary. The article introduces the content of GLP requirements and the recent development of GLP. The safety and efficacy assessment for OP or herbal medicines under GLP are also covered. This paper also briefly describes the areas that should be covered by GLP regulation and the areas that do not need to follow GLP requirements.
International Trends of Good Agricultural Practice(GAP)
Lee, Ju-Young,Park, Jin-Han The Korean Society of Oriental Pharmacy 2008 Journal of oriental pharmacy Vol.1 No.1
Consumers have been requiring more higher level of food and agricultural products safety. The system of Good Agricultural Practice(GAP) has been spreaded over the world. Korea also introduced the GAP system in agricultural industry. GAP is related to the production side in the whole traceability system. The establishment of GAP system is a prerequisite to secure food safety. This study reviewed the concept of GAP and necessities and backgrounds of introducing the GAP system. Also, this study analyzed the problems which have been appeared in the GAP program and proposed the policy strategies and directions for the Korean GAP system. So issues for the GAP system are as follows; computerizing of traceability system, forming the cooperative works among the related governmental departments, establishing a certification system to relate with crop features, efficient management, ensuring distribution channel and the research for estimating GAP consumer surplus is need to analyze GAP program more efficient. In addition, It is necessary to keep the records of the data to analyze the GAP program more accurately.
Inhibitory effect of Butanol fraction of Ecklonia cava on inflammatory mediators in RAW 264.7 cells
Chae, Hee-Sung,Choi, Jang-Ki,Kwon, Dong-Yeul The Korean Society of Oriental Pharmacy 2009 Journal of oriental pharmacy Vol.2 No.1
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of Ecklonia cava butanol extract (BFEC) on RAW 264.7 cells. Method : To evaluate of anti-inflammatory of BFEC, We examined cytokine and Nitric oxide(NO) production in lipopolysacchride (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cell. Result : Extract of BFEC inhibit LPS-induced interleukin (IL)-6, NO production in human monocyte RAW 264.7 cells. Conclusion : BFEC down-regulated LPS-induced IL-6, NO production, which may be provide a clinical basis for anti-inflammatory properities of BFEC.
Inhibitory effects of Polygoni cuspidati rhizoma on Mast Cell-Mediated Anaphylactic Reaction
Kang, Tae-Hee,Jeung, Eun-Suk,Choi, In-Young,Jeong, Hyun-Ja,Um, Jea-Young,Kim, Hyung-Min,Hong, Seung-Heon The Korean Society of Oriental Pharmacy 2008 Journal of oriental pharmacy Vol.1 No.1
Polygoni cuspidati Rhizoma (PCRH) has been used in treatment of menoxenia, skin burn, gallstone, hepatitis, hyperlipidaemia, favus athlete's foot, supperative dermatitis and inflammation. However, its effect in experimental models remains unknown. In this present study, the effect of PCRH for stability on mast cell was analyzed. Two g/kg PCRH inhibited the compound 48/80-induced anaphylaxis by 75%. In addition, PCRH inhibited the tumor necrosis factor-$\alpha$ and interleukin-8 secretion as compared with the phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate plus calcium ionophore A23187 stimulated human mast cell line, HMC-1 cells. These results suggested PCRH may inhibit mast cell-mediated anaphylactic reaction.
A Study on the Evidence-Based Herbal Medicine
Park, Jin-Han,Cho, Young-Mook,Choi, Sun-Kyung,Kim, Na-Hyun,Lee, Ki-Taeg,Hong, Seung-Heon The Korean Society of Oriental Pharmacy 2010 Journal of oriental pharmacy Vol.3 No.1
The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is currently widespread and appears to be growing. As an increasing proportion of the population turns to CAM therapies, whether singly or in combination with allopathic medicine, the need for quality research in this area is reinforced. Much of this research consists of clinical studies aim ed primarily at clinicians, yet challenges arising from poor methodological quality will occur w hen interpreting study findings and their implications. For clinicians to be effective consumers of the scientific literature, familiarization with the principles of evidence based medicine (EBM) is essential. The goal of this review is to introduce clinicians to the concept of critical appraisal of clinical studies and foster critical thinking when reading research articles in order to best evaluate and incorporate study findings into their daily practice.
Isolation and Structure Determination of Coumarin Derivatives from the Roots of Angelica dahurica
Kim, Ji-Yeon,Son, Jong-Keun,Song, Dong-Keun The Korean Society of Oriental Pharmacy 2010 Journal of oriental pharmacy Vol.3 No.1
From the roots of Angelica dahurica Bentham et Hooker (Umbelliferae), three known coumarin derivatives have been isolated and identified as 8-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-3-methylbutyloxy) psoralen, 5,8-di(2,3-dihydroxy-3-methylbutyloxy) psoralen, 9-[3-($\beta$-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-2-hydroxy-3-methylbutoxy]-7H-furo[3,2-g][1]benzopyran-7-one. This is the first report of the occurrence of these compounds in this plant. These three compounds were tested for activity in septic shock model. Among these compounds, 2 showed relatively strong preventive activity against septic shock.
