• Modified Pixels Based Fast Median Filter in Impulse Noise Environments

Hee Lee, Man,Shin, Soo Young Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science 2018 Indonesian journal of electrical engineering and c Vol.9 No.3

This paper proposes a modified pixel-based fast median filter (MP-FMF) for impulse noise environments. The key idea behind MP-FMF is the reduction in the processing time by using modified pixels. It consists of three steps, namely, error detection, threshold decision, and noise mitigation. The presence of noise is detected by using modified pixels that include a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) function. Subsequently, the threshold values are decided by estimating the noise density. For noise mitigation, corrupted pixels are corrected with the neighboring pixels based on the principle of the median filter. The MP-FMF has a fast processing time and provides image quality correction and introduces features when the noise density is high. In addition, we introduce a new evaluation metric and investigate the performance of the proposed algorithm in terms of the quality, features, and computation time.

      • Explosion-proof thermal type gas flow sensor structure analysis and sensor module development

Kim, Gwan-Hyung,Jung, Hea-Sung,Jung, In-Ho Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science 2019 Indonesian journal of electrical engineering and c Vol.13 No.1

The present study studied structure analysis and sensor modules for explosion-proof thermal type flow sensors that can withstand the poor surroundings of vessel engines and power plants and can be installed in gas lines. The structure analysis evaluated the integrity of the structures of the explosion-proof thermal type flow sensors with finite element analysis, and with regard to the operation of the sensor modules, those sensor modules that can detect environments where vibrations occur or where there are flows of high pressure gases or fluids were researched and developed. The explosion-proof thermal type flow sensor module consists of a sensing part, an adjustment part, and an output part, and a noise prevention circuit was added to secure the stability of the measurement signals. The flow sensor developed with the present study is a sensor module capable of measuring flows in domestic gas engines and gas piping and it is presented as a reliable sensor module because it is strong against vibrations and has excellent explosion-proof performance.

      • Cryptanalysis on Privacy-aware two-factor Authentication Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science 2017 Indonesian journal of electrical engineering and c Vol.8 No.2

Das first proposed two-factor authentication combining the smart card and password to resolve the security problems of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). After that, various researchers studied two-factor authentication suitable for WSNs. In user authentication protocols based on the symmetric key approach, a number of elliptic curve cryptography (ECC)-based authentication protocols have been proposed. To resolve the security and efficiency problems of ECC-based two-factor authentication protocols, Jiang et al. proposed a privacy-aware two-factor authentication protocol based on ECC for WSNs. However, this paper performs a vulnerability analysis on Jiang et al.’s authentication protocol and shows that it has security problems, such as a lack of mutual authentication, a risk of SID modification and DoS attacks, a lack of sensor anonymity, and weak ID anonymity.

      • User command acquisition based IoT automatic control system

Kang, Inshik,Song, Hyunok,Jung, Hoekyung Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science 2019 Indonesian journal of electrical engineering and c Vol.13 No.1

Recently, researches are being conducted to build a smart environment using various sensors and devices and to provide customized services to users through IoT (Internet of Things). The existing IoT system operates the device only by using the threshold value. So, there are problems that device operates when a service that does not consider a user characteristic is provided or when user not necessary. In this paper, to solve these problems, the system collects the remote control commands and compares it with the value of device operation threshold and sets the changed threshold value. In addition, devices not registered in the server constitute the environment by linking with existing task. Therefore, it is possible to provide a customized service to the users.
