        일제시기 面職員의 존재형태와 해방 후 활동 : 울주군 상북면 사례

        This study tried to examine myeon officeholders under Japanese colonial rule through the example of Sangbuk myeon Ulju-gun. First, I researched such things like their family background, personal history, socioeconomic status. Through this, I ascertained who was appointed to myeon officeholders at that time. The chief of Sangbuk myeon was appointed to as a figure who could bring theirselves influence to myeon people with a better socioeconomic status as the powerful clans of Yang-ban(aristocratic family) and financial control based on the relation between landowners and tenants. Most of myeon officials(面書記), myeon assistant engineers(面技手) received new educations with administrative experience. Moreover they were rich and middle-class farmers more than half. The next, I examined how they had changed in the new political system by inquiring into their activities since 1945. After the liberation, the chief of Sangbuk myeon coming from the landed classes had become gradually lost theirselves influence within the area by being disappeared theirselves material basis since the Farmland Reform. By contrast, myeon officials and assistant engineers entered widely into government, administration, education fields of Sangbuk myeon based on their knowledge and administrative jobs' career under Japaness colonial period. For those reason, they emerged as new local leaders rising their socioeconomic position.

        The violent debate on Korean Modern and Contemporary History textbook took place throughout the second half of 2008 in Korea. Some conservative groups such as new right organizations and some economic organizations argued that the many contents of Korean Modern and Contemporary History textbook should be revised because it has the inclination to the left. Ministry of Education, Science and Technology accepted their argument and set about the revision of the history textbook. Some office of educations forced high schools to change Korean Modern and Contemporary History textbook published in Kumsung Publishing Co. Ltd to other one. As the result, serious conflicts between school master and history teachers happened to some schools. Many historians and history teachers opposed to the revision of Korean Modern and Contemporary History textbook by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the coercion of the history textbook selection by the office of education, arguing that the revision of textbook by the government organization destroyed the freedom of the academic and the self-control of the education. Authors refused to revise of the contents of the textbook according to the order of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. But Kumsung Publishing Co. Ltd, the publisher, revised the contents of the textbook without permission of authors as ones which Ministry of Education, Science and Technology ordered to revise as. And more than 330 high schools altered Gumsung Korean Modern and Contemporary History textbook to other publishing one. As the result, the occupation ratio of Gumsung Korean Modern and Contemporary History textbook became low from about 50% to about 30%. The most serious problem of the debate on Korean Modem and Contemporary History textbook is that the contents of the textbook are revised and the autonomic right of the author and the teacher are invaded by the political authority. It will possibly bring about the danger that the education should be subordinate to the political power. It will break down the official certification of textbook and hamper the pluralistic and creative historical perspective of students.

      • 역사 교과서 서술에서 사실과 관점 : <한국근·현대사> 교과서 수정 지시 파동을 중심으로

        This study is concerned with facts and standpoints in Highschool history textbook, especially 『Modem History of Korea』. This study investigates the order of amendment at 『Highschool Modern History of Korea』 Textbook by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. In 2008, Minister of Ministry of Education Science and Technology indicated that 『highschool Modem History of Korea』 was described ideologically prejudiced tone, and ordered amendment. This study conclude that items of amendment is the other way ideologically prejudiced conservatism. Authors and teachers protested the order. They emphasized that the oder of amendments were violation of political neutrality of education. Political neutrality of education can be established by joint consideration and research of historians and history teachers. There are many points of views and interpretation in History. In history classroom, Students should deal with many interpretation and points of views.
