가톨릭 교회가 침묵해온 남녀 불평등 : A Feminist's Analytical Attempt
남인숙 대구효성가톨릭대학교 사회과학연구소 1998 女性問題硏究 Vol.23 No.-
This study premises that women's studies is the best approach to analyze the Catholic church and women, especially the women's liberation movement. Theology and philosophy may not be as adequate as women's studies, since in the Catholic tradition, they have been mostly monopolized by men such as priests and friars who left no room for a study of woman's role from a feminist perspective. On occasion, Catholic activists in women's rights movement and nuns in Korea did advise their church athorities that women no longer wish to remain at the low echelons of the church and bright women would leave the church unless given responsibilities in making policy-inputs. But there was no sympathetic audience there. Hence a feministic study of the Korean Catholic church has been next to impossible as it was viewed to threaten not only the rank order of the patriarchal church but also the Confucius social order of Korea Therefore, this study dare to make a friendly but critical analysis of the Catholic church from a "Womanologist" viewpoint. Perspectives of American and European women's liberation activists are often cited in this article. They tend to view the church as sustaining a dualistic religion idealizing a women like Mary while at the same time despising women in general. Policy implications of this study might stem from understanding why a number of Catholic women remain confused about the church's view on women, lean toward radical feminist movement or even changes to Protestantism to be ordained as a women minister or priest which is unthinkable in the Catholic church. The Euro-American Catholic churches may have to reform in order to reverse these trends and the Korean churches had better take lessons from them. A good many Catholics take a pride in the fact that Mary, the highest among those created by God was a women. When the angel announced the impending pregnancy to the Virgin Mary, she accepted it without consulting any males including her fiance, Joseph. This shows Mary's independent mindedness except to God. The heretofore prevailing view that Mary was an obedient and passive person was a myth produced by men and the male-dominated church. As this study demonstrates, Mary was a feminist for being a very non-male dependant, active and self-oriented women. A correct and authentic understanding of Mary by the Catholic church could also contribute toward equalization of sexes in and outside the churches.

For the purpose of the empirical study on the measurement and related variables of the job satisfaction, and it's demographic variables' effects, it was surveyed for the job satisfaction scales and value orientation scales. The subjects were 429 employeed in a large scale textile production company. The major findings are as follows. 1) Through the factor analysis, the dimensions of job satisfaction are leadership, company policies, salaries, promotion, working condition, benefits, and co-workers. These results are similiar with established researches. The consturct validity of the job satisfaction scale adopted in this study is considered as moderate. 2) The facet or factor satisfaction correlations with overall satisfaction are relevant coefficients(from r=.19 to r=.38). 3) The general value items have no significant effect on the job satisfaction. 4) The demographic variables' effects of the job satisfaction have similiar tendency wiht the established researches.
