Nakdong River Basin is a lowland developed by eroding. Due to rapid urbanization recently, impermeable regions increase and rice and paddy fields preserving water decrease in the basin. As a result, the runoff rate in the basin increases. Heavy rainfall events also contribute as a main factor to increase the frequency of flooding in the basin. Nakdong River Flooding Control Center made a new flooding forecast system to control flooding in the basin. This system made it possible for many people to predict flooding in the basin, but this system is mainly constructed for mainstream of the Nakdong River and not for distributary, which may be potentially more important for flooding forecasts. In this study, using several cases, we verify the usefulness of hydro meteorological information of distributary for forecasting floods. Another important issue is delivering flooding forecasts to public at proper time through effective mass communication. At the same time, routine education on hydrometeorological information to public through mass media, school, and community will be very crucial to minimize damages by flooding.
