        Characterization of Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae, Causal Agent of Citrus Blast of Mandarin in Montenegro

        Citrus blast caused by bacterium Pseudomonas syringae is a very important disease of citrus occuring in many areas of the world, but with few data about genetic structure of the pathogen involved. Considering the above fact, this study reports genetic characterization of 43 P. syringae isolates obtained from plant tissue displaying citrus blast symptoms on mandarin (Citrus reticulata) in Montenegro, using multilocus sequence analysis of gyrB, rpoD, and gap1 gene sequences. Gene sequences from a collection of 54 reference pathotype strains of P. syringae from the Plant Associated and Environmental Microbes Database (PAMDB) was used to establish a genetic relationship with our isolates obtained from mandarin. Phylogenetic analyses of gyrB, rpoD, and gap1 gene sequences showed that P. syringae pv. syringae causes citrus blast in mandarin in Montenegro, and belongs to genomospecies 1. Genetic homogeneity of isolates suggested that the Montenegrian population might be clonal which indicates a possible common source of infection. These findings may assist in further epidemiological studies of this pathogen and for determining mandarin breeding strategies for P. syringae control.

        WEAKLY DENSE IDEALS IN PRIVALOV SPACES OF HOLOMORPHIC FUNCTIONS

        In this paper we study the structure of closed weakly dense ideals in Privalov spaces N^p (1 < p < ∞) of holomorphic functions on the disk D : <수식>. The space Np with the topology given by Stoll's metric [21] becomes an F-algebra. N. Mochizuki [16] proved that a closed ideal in N^p is a principal ideal generated by an inner function. Consequently,a closed subspace E of N^p is invariant under multiplication by z if and only if it has the form IN^p for some inner function I. We prove that if M is a closed ideal in Np that is dense in the weak topology of N^p, then M is generated by a singular inner function. On the other hand, if Sμis a singular inner function whose associated singular measure μ has the modulus of continuity <수식> then we prove that the ideal SμN^p is weakly dense in N^p. Consequently, for such singular inner function Sμ,the quotient space N^p=SμN^p is an F-space with trivial dual, and hence N^p does not have the separation property.

        Influence of solution pH, supporting electrolyte presence and solid content on the stability of aqueous nanosilica suspension

        The effects of solution pH, supporting electrolyte presence and solid content on nanosilica suspensionstability were examined. The turbidimetry method was applied to monitor the changes in the systemstability in the short (about 2 h) and long (about 18 days) periods of time. The stability coefficients andaggregate diameters were calculated numerically to estimate colloidal system properties. The sodiumchloride presence (as a supporting electrolyte) improves the stability conditions of SiO2 suspension. Thegreatest effect of solution pH change is observed in the aqueous medium. The most unstable systemoccurs at pH 10.6 after 18 days.

        Effect of polyvinyl alcohol adsorption on the mixed alumina–silica–titania suspension stability

        The adsorption and electrokinetic properties as well as the stability of the AST71 suspension in the absence and presence of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were examined. AST71 is a mixed oxide of alumina, silica and titania. All measurements were carried out as a function of solution pH and the polymer molecular weight. The pooled result analysis showed that the PVA adsorption amount strongly depends on the solution pH. The higher solution pH value is, the more polymer macromolecules are adsorbed on the solid surface. This dependence is mainly associated with the PVA chain conformation. The adsorption of polyvinyl alcohol changes the stability of the AST71 suspension, but only in the solution of pH 9. Under these conditions the system without PVA is unstable, which is connected with the isoelectric point of the solid particles. In the presence of the polymer the electrosteric stabilization occurs.
