June Yim, Kyung,Seon Song, Hye,Choi, Jong-Soon,Woon Roh, Seong Society for General Microbiology 2015 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.65 No.8

A hyperthermophilic crenarchaeon, designated strain CBA1502T, was isolated from volcanic soil in the Mayon volcano in the Philippines. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain CBA1502T was most closely related to that of Thermoproteus uzoniensis DSM 5263T (99.2?% similarity) and Thermoproteus tenax Kra 1T (99.0?%). The organism grew at 75-90?C and pH?4.0-6.0 and in the presence of 0-0.5?% (w/v) NaCl, with optimal growth at 85?C and pH?5.0. Strain CBA1502T utilized d-arabinose, beef extract, Casamino acids, formate, fumarate, peptone, pyruvate, trimethylamine and yeast extract as energy substrates, and d-arabinose, formate, pyruvate and yeast extract as carbon sources. Fumarate, sulfate, sulfur and thiosulfate functioned as electron acceptors, but not ferric chloride, nitrate, malate or oxidized glutathione. DNA-DNA hybridization studies showed that there was less than 46.1?% relatedness between strain CBA1502T and other members of the genus Thermoproteus. The DNA G+C content of strain CBA1502T was 62.0?mol%. We conclude that, according to its phylogenetic, phenotypic and genotypic characteristics, strain CBA1502T represents a novel species of the genus Thermoproteus, and propose the name Thermoproteus thermophilus sp. nov., with the type strain CBA1502T (?=?ATCC BAA-2416T?=?JCM 17229T).

This study examined the growth, fatty acid (FA) content, and carotenoids of a newly isolated freshwater microalga, Mychonastes sp. 246, in various culture media. The appropriate temperature and light intensity for culturing Mychonastes sp. 246 were determined as 18°C–22°C and 200–250 μmol/m2/s using a high throughput photobioreactor. The microalgal cells were cultivated in 0.5 L bubble column photobioreactors using BG11, Bold’s Basal media, and f/2 media. According to the growth results of the microalgae, BG11, among the tested media, showed the highest biomass concentrations (3.5 ± 0.1 g/L in 10 d). To enhance the biomass growth of the microalgae, the N:P ratio in BG11 was manipulated from 45:1 to 7:1 based on the stoichiometric cell composition. The biomass concentrations of Mychonastes sp. 246 grown on the manipulated BG11 (MBG) increased to 38% (4.6 ± 0.3 g/L in d) compared with the original BG11 (3.3 g/L). The FA content of the microalgae grown on the MBG was lower (8.4%) than that of the original BG11 (10.1%) while the FA compositions did not exhibit any significant differences. Furthermore, three kinds of carotenoids were identified in Mychonastes sp. 246, zeaxanthin, lutein, and β-carotene. These results suggest an effective strategy for increasing biomass concentrations, FA content, and carotenoids of microalgae by performing a simple N:P adjustment in the culture media.

A recent study suggested that pseudonetwork and grey dots/granules were the most suggestive dermoscopic features of Riehl’s melanosis on the face. However, Riehl’s melanosis can also occur on the neck. Dermoscopic features of Riehl’s melanosis at this site have not been reported. Objectives: The aim of our study was to compare dermoscopic findings of the face and neck in patients with Riehl’s melanosis. Methods: Clinical charts and dermoscopic images of 7 patients with Riehl’s melanosis were retrospectively assessed. Results: In the dermoscopic images of the neck, in addition to pseudonetwork, grey dots/granules, telangiectatic vessels, slight scales and hypopigmented furrow patterns were observed in all patients. Conclusion: In this study, we were able to determine that pseudonetwork and grey dots/granules were the most suggestive dermoscopic features of Riehl’s melanosis. In the neck, we also observed a hypopigmented furrow pattern with slight scale. These findings may be helpful in the diagnosis of Riehl’s melanosis.

Background: Treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis requires their differentiation from other eczematoid dermatitis and a determination of disease severity. However, both can be clinically difficult and the findings subjectively interpreted. Objectives: We investigated the utility of in vivo autofluorescence (AF) measurements for diagnosis of both diseases, and determination of severity. Methods: 30 patients with AD and 30 with psoriasis were recruited, together with sex- and age-matched patients with healthy skin. AF intensity was measured using the EcoSkin® fluorescence video dermatoscope. In AD and psoriasis patients, AF in non-sun-exposed lesional and non-lesional skin was measured. To identify the locations that reflect characteristics of AD, AF was also measured at the other sites in the patients with AD. Results: AD was associated with lower AF and psoriasis with higher AF intensity peaking around 620 nm. In addition, skin AF intensity of each disease was associated with severity of lesion. Conclusion: Non-invasive measurement of skin AF in vivo can aid in diagnosis of AD and psoriasis as well as in treatment monitoring.
Cutaneous pseudolymphoma on the oral commissure occurred in multiple myeloma patient
( June Hyuck Yim ),( Tae In Kim ),( Myong Il Bae ),( Mu Hyoung Lee ),( Min Kyung Shin ) 대한피부과학회 2015 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.67 No.1
Cutaneous pseudolymphoma is defined as reactive polyclonal benign lymphoproliferative process predominantly composed of either B-cells or T-cells, localized or disseminated. It heals spontaneously after cessation of the causative factor (e.g. drugs) or after non-aggressive treatment. A 75-year-old female who had a history of multiple myeloma consulted our department because painful lesion, which developed on her right oral commissure, approximately one month ago. The angularcheilitis and malignant plasmacytoma were suspected and biopsy was conducted. It revealed excessive proliferation of small lymphoid cells. The lymphoid cells lacked apparent atypical features and appeared matures. Immunohistochemically, no light chain restriction is seen and plasma cells were seen in a significant amounts. Because the constituent cells were both lymphoid cells and plasma cells, no light-chain restriction was seen, and no histological atypia was seen, a diagnosis of cutaneous pseudolymphoma was made.

Background: Numerous studies have investigated the potentialrelationship of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-G 14bp insertion/deletion (INS/DEL) polymorphism with autoimmune disease (AID). However, results from published data were inconclusive. Objectives: Our aim in this study was to determine whether the 14bp INS/DEL polymorphism in the HLA-G gene contributes to the risk of AID. Methods: A systemic literature search of PubMed and Embase databases was conducted to identify eligible studies investigating the association of HLA-G 14bp INS/DEL polymorphism with AID. The final analysis included 13 publications with a total of 6462 individuals. Results: Overall, no significant association between HLA-G 14-bp INS/DEL polymorphism and overall AID was detected in all comparison models. Further subgroup analyses based on AID types and ethnicity showed no significant association. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the HLA-G 14bp INS/DEL polymorphism might not be related to the development of AID. Further studies with larger sample size are warranted to validate our finding.
