        Advanced Parameter Identification for a Linear-Motor-Driven Motion System Using Disturbance Observer

        Disturbance observer (DOB) is generally introduced into motion control systems to eliminate undesired disturbances and plant uncertainty. The DOB is also used for system identification. This work presents a novel experimental identification algorithm using disturbance observer to identify inertia, viscous coefficient, and friction of linear-motor-driven motion system. A conventionally adopted algorithm for determining the inertia of the motion system based on orthogonal relations among system responses is modified and extended to estimate the viscous coefficient and the magnitude of Coulomb friction of the underlying system. The advantages of the proposed method are high convergence rate and only one experiment needed to evaluate the system parameters. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated to be workable by both simulation and experiment.

      • A Rapid and Efficient Pre-deployment Key Scheme for Secure Data Transmissions in Sensor Networks Using Lagrange Interpolation Polynomial

        This study proposes a pre-deployment key management scheme that requires a few memory capacities and CPU computations to address secure data transmissions in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The proposed scheme exploits threshold key management mechanisms by Lagrange Interpolation polynomial generating a key set for sensor nodes, and uses symmetric and irreversible cryptography schemes to encrypt transmitted data by the generated keys with Message Authentication Code (MAC). The sensor nodes merely have to aggregate and encrypt received data without complicated cryptography operations. The proposed approach can achieve rapid and efficient secure data transmissions with low communications, and is proper to be implemented on large-scale sensor networks.

      • The Effectiveness Of Using Situated Teaching Method On Equipment Operation Training Programs For Property Management Company

        This study examined the influence of situated teaching on the effectiveness of a property management company’s employee training. The study findings revealed that the training recipients exhibited a considerable improvement in learning outcomes after the intervention and showed an overall satisfactory learning attitude during the training. An expert interview and onsite investigation were performed to identify five systems (i.e., electrical and mechanical system, fire protection system, light-current system, elevator system, and gas system) in the sample apartment complex. These systems were used as the training materials. The study results determined that the recipients displayed lower degrees of familiarity with the electrical and mechanical, gas, and fire protection systems than with the other two systems. Therefore, this study suggested that more attention must be paid to these three systems in future employee training. Shift time did not affect the recipients’ familiarity with the location and operation of the apartment facilities and equipment. Thus, this study suggests that field supervisors must provide individual instructions to subordinate employees to ensure smooth property management. Property management service personnel provide round-the-clock field services to the residence areas they serve to immediately respond to emergency facility or equipment problems and minimize potential loss of property. This dedicated work attitude is aptly a core value that the property management service industry has long promoted.
