Preparation, surface characteristic and photoactive activitiesof Ni2FeV3O11 semiconductor nanoparticles

        Qiao, X.,Yang, L.,Li, Y.,Wan, Y.,Huang, Y.,Cheng, H.,Seo, H.J. North-Holland 2016 Materials letters Vol.163 No.-

Ni2FeV3O11 nanorods were prepared by the sol-gel method via film-coating and subsequent heating. The sample was conducted by the crystal structure refinement confirming a pure triclinic phase with space group P-1. The surface characteristics were investigated by the measurements such as scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), specific surface area, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The photo-physical properties of Ni2FeV3O11 nanorods were measured by the UV-vis absorption spectrum, and the photodegradation for methylene blue solutions (MB). This vanadate semiconductor has band-gap energy of 1.85eV and presents an efficient photocatalytic activity driven by visible-light. Moreover, the nanorods are magnetically recoverable after the photocatalysis.

Coprecipitation synthesis, structure and photoluminescence properties of Eu3+-doped sodium barium borate

        Qiao, X.,Cheng, Y.,Qin, L.,Qin, C.,Cai, P.,Kim, S.I.,Seo, H.J. Elsevier Sequoia 2014 JOURNAL OF ALLOYS AND COMPOUNDS Vol.617 No.-

Micro-sized phosphors of Eu3+-doped NaBaBO3 (0.5-12mol%) were prepared by the modified co-precipitation synthesis. The samples were characterized by scanning electron micrograph (SEM) images and electron dispersive X-ray (EDX). The polycrystalline samples are well developed to the regular plate-like particles with the uniform morphology. The single crystal-phase NaBaBO3 of the Eu3+-doped sample was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurements and the structure refinement. The optical properties are evaluated by photoluminescence (PL) excitation and emission spectra, and decay curves. The absolute luminescence quantum efficiency (QE) and the activation energy (ΔE) are reported. Eu3+-doped NaBaBO3 presents a bright red-emitting color under the excitation of near-UV light around 400nm. The maximum absolute QE of NaBaBO3:Eu3+ is estimated to be 53% at 300K. The phosphor shows an excellent thermal stability on temperature quenching effects. The results were discussed on the relationship between the structure and the luminescence properties.

Bioefficacy of Lysine from L-lysine Sulfate and L-lysine⋅HCl for 10 to 20 kg Pigs

        Liu, M.,Qiao, S.Y.,Wang, X.,You, J.M.,Piao, X.S. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.10

The objective of this study was to compare the bioefficacy of L-lysine sulfate relative to L-lysine${\cdot}$HCl for 10 to 20 kg pigs. Two experiments were conducted to determine the bioefficacy of the two sources of lysine using daily gain, feed conversion, plasma urea nitrogen and nitrogen retention as the response criteria. In experiment 1, 168 crossbred barrows ($Landrace{\times}Large$ White), weaned at $28{\pm}3$ d ($9.07{\pm}0.78$kg body weight), were allotted to one of seven dietary treatments in a $2{\times}3$ (two lysine $sources{\times}three $ lysine levels) factorial arrangement of treatments with an added negative control treatment group. The basal diet was based on corn, peanut meal and soybean meal and provided 0.67% lysine. The basal diet was supplemented with 0.1, 0.2 or 0.3% lysine equivalents supplied from either L-lysine sulfate or L-lysine${\cdot}$HCl. Each treatment was fed to six pens of pigs with four pigs per pen. The trial lasted 21 days. The relative bioefficacy value of lysine in L-lysine sulfate using daily gain, feed conversion and plasma urea nitrogen as response criteria was 1.01, 1.05 and 1.04 of the lysine in L-lysine${\cdot}$HCl, respectively. In experiment 2, 42 crossbred ($Landrace{\times}Large$ White) pigs ($16.03{\pm}1.58$ kg body weight) were housed in stainless steel metabolism cages for 10 d and fed the seven diets used in the nitrogen-balance trial. The relative bioefficacy value of L-lysine sulfate was estimated to be 0.95 as effective as L-lysine${\cdot}$HCl for nitrogen retention on an equimolar basis. The t-test analysis revealed that bioefficacy of lysine in L-lysine sulfate was not significantly different from lysine in L-lysine${\cdot}$HCl, which was set at 1.00. In conclusion, L-lysine sulfate can be used instead of L-lysine${\cdot}$HCl to fortify lysine-deficient diets fed to 10 to 20 kg pigs.

Preparation, characterization and high quantum efficiency of yellow-emitting CsVO3 nanofibers

        Qiao, X.,Li, Y.,Wan, Y.,Huang, Y.,Cheng, H.,Seo, H.J. Elsevier Sequoia 2016 JOURNAL OF ALLOYS AND COMPOUNDS Vol.656 No.-

The self-activated yellow-emitting CsVO3 nanofibers were prepared by the hydrothermal reaction method. The structural refinement was conducted on the base of XRD measurement. The surface properties of the CsVO3 nanofibers were investigated using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS). One of the morphological characterizations is the high length-diameter ratio with diameters of 100-150 nm and lengths of tens of micrometers. The UV-vis absorption spectrum and the electronic band structures of CsVO3 nanofiber show a direct allowed electronic gap with band energy of 2.997 eV. The luminescence properties such as photoluminescence spectra, decay lifetime, color coordinates and the absolute internal quantum efficiency (η) were studied. Notably, CsVO3 nanofibers present a bright yellow luminescence with a high quantum efficiency of 85%. It is suggested that CsVO3 nanofibers could be used for efficient lighting and display.

Luminescence properties of novel Ce3+, Mn2+ doped NaSr4(BO3)3 phosphors

        Zhang, X.,Qiao, X.,Seo, H.J. Elsevier 2011 CURRENT APPLIED PHYSICS Vol.11 No.3

A new borate compound NaSr4(BO3)3 doped with Ce3+, Mn2+ was prepared by a solid-state reaction at high temperature. The photoluminescence (PL) excitation and emission spectra, low temperature emission spectra and decay curves of Ce3+, Mn2+ in NaSr4(BO3)3 were studied. The PL properties of Ce3+, Mn2+ co-doped NaSr4(BO3)3 were also investigated. NaSr4(BO3)3:Ce3+,Mn2+ phosphors emit two distinctive colors: a blue band centered at 435 nm originating from Ce3+ and a red band at 660 nm caused by Mn2+. The results indicate that there exist energy transfer from Ce3+ to Mn2+ in the NaSr4(BO3)3 doped with Ce3+, Mn2+ system.

Nutritional Evaluation of Chinese Nonconventional Protein Feedstuffs for Growing-Finishing Pigs - 2. Rapeseed Meal

        Li, Defa,Qiao, S.Y.,Yi, G.F.,Jiang, J.Y.,Xu, X.X.,Thacker, P.,Piao, X.S.,Han, In K. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2000 Animal Bioscience Vol.13 No.1

Two experiments were conducted to determine ileal digestibilities for the amino acids contained in rapeseed meal using the regression technique and then applying the values obtained, in a growth trial, using growing-finishing pigs. For the digestibility trial, four 20 kg crossbred $(Yorkshire{\times}Landrace{\times}Beijing\;Black)$ barrows were fitted with simple T-cannula in the terminal ileum. After recovery, the barrows were fed one of four experimental diets according to a $4{\times}4$ Latin Square design. The pigs were fed corn-soybean meal based diets supplemented with 0, 25, 50 or 75% rapeseed meal. For the growth trial, 80 crossbred $(Yorkshire{\times}Landrace{\times}Beijing\;Black)$ growing pigs $(20{\pm}2.4kg)$ were fed corn-soybean meal diets supplemented with 0, 3, 6, 9 or 12% rapeseed meal. Four pens (2 gilts and 2 castrates) were assigned to each treatment. With the exception of isoleucine and methionine, the digestibility coefficients for the indispensible amino acids declined as the level of rapeseed meal in the diet increased. There was little agreement between the amino acid digestibilities determined with the regression technique and values previously published for rapeseed meal. During the growing (22-42 kg) period, the addition of rapeseed meal had no significant effects on gain, feed intake or feed conversion. During the finishing period (58-91 kg), daily gain was not affected by rapeseed meal inclusion but feed conversion declined (p<0.04) as the level of rapeseed meal in the diet increased.

For the digestibility trial, four, 20 kg crossbred (Yorkshire $\times$ Landrace $\times$ Beijing Black) barrows were fitted with a simple T-cannula in the terminal ileum. After recovery, the barrows were fed one of four experimental diets according to a $4{\times}4$ Latin Square design. The pigs were fed corn-soybean meal based diets supplemented with 0, 25, 50 or 75 percent sesame meal. For the growth trial, 210 crossbred (Yorkshire $\times$ Landrace $\times$ Henan Min) growing pigs ($21.8{\pm}1.4kg$), were fed corn-soybean meal based diets supplemented with 0, 3, 6, 9, or 12% sesame meal. Three pens (7 gilts and 7 castrates) were assigned to each treatment. With the exception of arginine and phenylalanine, the digestibility coefficients for the indispensible amino acids declined as the level of sesame meal in the diet increased. There was little agreement between the amino acid digestibilities determined with the regression technique and values previously published for sesame meal determined with the direct method. Daily gain and feed conversion both declined (linear effect p=0.02 and 0.06 respectively) as the level of sesame meal in the diet increased.

Growth Performance of Growing-Finishing Pigs Fed Diets Supplemented with Chinese Cottonseed Meal Based on Amino Acid Digestibilities

        Li, Deta,Xn, X.X.,Qiao, S.Y.,Zheng, C.T.,Chen, Y.,Piao, X.S.,Han, In K.,Thacker, P. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2000 Animal Bioscience Vol.13 No.4

Two experiments were conducted to determine the ileal digestibility of the amino acids contained in cottonseed meal using the regression technique and then applying the values obtained, in a growth trial, using growing-finishing pigs. For the digestibility trial, four 20 kg crossbred ($Yorkshire{\times}Landrace{\times}Beijing$ Black) barrows were fitted with simple T-cannula in the terminal ileum. After recovery, the barrows were fed one of four experimental diets according to a $4{\times}4$ Latin Square design. The pigs were fed com-soybean meal based diets supplemented with 0, 25, 50 or 75% cottonseed meal. For the growth trial, 128 crossbred ($Yorkshire{\times}Landrace{\times}Beijing$ Black) growing pigs (21 kg) were fed com-soybean meal diets supplemented with 0, 4, 8 or 12% cottonseed meal. Four pens (4 gilts and 4 castrates) were assigned to each treatment. The digestibility coefficients for the indispensible amino acids declined as the level of cottonseed meal in the diet increased. There was good agreement between the amino acid digestibilities for methionine, threonine and tryptophan determined using the regression technique and amino acid digestibilities previously published for cottonseed meal. However, for lysine, the value of 67% ileal digestibility obtained in the present experiment was higher than most previously published estimates which ranged from 42 to 73%. During both the growing (21-43 kg) and finishing (43-84 kg) periods, the addition of cottonseed meal decreased average daily gain and feed conversion in a linear manner (p<0.05). Feed intake was not significantly different between treatments. The overall results suggest that cottonseed meal can be used at levels of up to 8% in diets fed to growing-finishing pigs provided that the diet. has been balanced for digestible amino acids.
