        Subcutaneous Basidiobolomycosis: A Rare and Underdiagnosed but Curable Fungal Infection - A Case Report

        Basidiobolomycosis is a rare deep fungal infection caused by Basidiobolus ranarum and characterized by the development of swollen erythematous nodular lesions. Several azoles have been shown to be an effective treatment for this condition. Herein, we report a case of basidiobolomycosis that was initially misdiagnosed as a different disease and resolved after itraconazole medication. A 25-year-old man presented with a 2.5-year history of extensive swelling on his right arm, face, and neck. Initially, he was diagnosed with lipoma and scapular tuberculosis; however, no improvements were observed post-surgery and with tuberculosis medication. Histopathological examinations revealed giant cells, aseptate hyphae, and the Splendore-Hoeppli phenomenon. Fungal culture confirmed the isolate to be Basidiobolus ranarum. The patient was given oral itraconazole 200 mg twice daily, and the complete resolution was achieved after 25 months of treatment.

        The Effect of Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure on Earning Management and Firm Value: Evidence from Indonesia

        The aim of this research is to provide empirical evidence on the impact of CSR disclosure on earnings management and firm value. The population used in this study were all manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2018. The sample in this study was 114 companies selected through purposive sampling. The results of data analysis show that CSR has a positive effect on Firm Value. CSR disclosure is one form of activity that companies carry out in influencing their stakeholder decisions. This is by the theory that a company is not an entity that only operates for its interests, but the main objective of the company is to meet stakeholder needs. Besides, CSR has a positive effect on Earning Management. The results of this study contrary to research conducted by prior research which states that CSR can reduce earning management because CSR not only increases information transparency but also creates interaction with stakeholders. The difference in findings in this study is because CSR disclosure in Indonesia is still low, as seen from the average CSR in Indonesia, which is 33%, and it is still not transparent so that companies tend to carry out earnings management.

        Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in central post-stroke pain: current status and future perspective

        Central post-stroke pain (CPSP) is an incapacitating disorder that impacts a substantial proportion of stroke survivors and can diminish their quality of life. Conventional therapies for CPSP, including tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and opioids, are frequently ineffective, necessitating the investigation of alternative therapeutic strategies. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is now recognized as a promising noninvasive pain management method for CPSP. rTMS modulates neural activity through the administration of magnetic pulses to specific cortical regions. Trials analyzing the effects of rTMS on CPSP have generated various outcomes, but the evidence suggests possible analgesic benefits. In CPSP and other neuropathic pain conditions, high-frequency rTMS targeting the primary motor cortex (M1) with figure-eight coils has demonstrated significant pain alleviation. Due to its associaton with analgesic benefits, M1 is the most frequently targeted area. The duration and frequency of rTMS sessions, as well as the stimulation intensity, have been studied in an effort to optimize treatment outcomes. The short-term pain relief effects of rTMS have been observed, but the long-term effects (> 3 months) require further investigation. Aspects such as stimulation frequency, location, and treatment period can influence the efficacy of rTMS and ought to be considered while planning the procedure. Standardized guidelines for using rTMS in CPSP would optimize therapy protocols and improve patient outcomes. This review article provides an up-to-date overview of the incidence, clinical characteristics, outcome of rTMS in CPSP patients, and future perspective in the field.

        Nutrient Culture Media with Agar is Effective for Early and Rapid Screening of Iron Toxicity Tolerance in Rice

        The breeding for iron toxicity tolerant rice needs an effective, efficient, and reliable screening method. The study was aimed to evaluate the best method for screening iron tolerant genotypes at the seedling stage in the greenhouse. Two rice genotypes, Mahsuri (tolerant) and IR64 (sensitive) were grown in three modified media solutions namely, Yoshida-conventional solution (YCS), Yoshida with etylenediamintetraacetic acid (1:2) (YES), and Yoshida with 0.2% agar (YAS). Three levels of iron were tested to observe the severity of their leaf bronzing score (LBS). The optimized solution in the greenhouse was then evaluated using 24 rice genotypes. Using the same genotypes interrelationship, the LBS in the greenhouse with grain yield and its attributes was validated under acute and moderate Fe toxicity in the field. The results showed that the optimized media culture was YAS with 400 mg L-1 of FeSO4. This media had more stable pH and redox potential, it could maintain sufficient Fe2+ supply over 10 days, and it could discriminate of LBS between tolerant and sensitive genotypes. Evaluation using the optimized media solution showed that there was a significant variation among genotypes in shoot dry weight and a significant correlation of relative reduction of shoot dry weight with LBS. The LBS in the greenhouse was correlated with LBS in acute iron stress in the field (r=0.673**) and the grain yield (r= -0.618**). This study has proven that YAS culture media can be used as early identification of iron toxicity tolerant genotypes for supporting breeding programs.
