      • Tourism as a Tool for Urban Cultural Heritage Conservation

        Tracey Firth,Hongyan Jia 세계문화관광학회 2009 Conference Proceedings Vol.10 No.0

This paper presents a comparison study of tourism at two urban heritage sites, Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf in Sydney Australia and The Residence of Ganxi in Nanjing China. Both sites are evaluated according to the criteria for successful tourism at heritage places outlined in a report published by The Australian Heritage Commission (AHC) (2001). Through case analysis the role of tourism as a tool for urban cultural heritage conservation is discussed. Data were collected through interviews and a survey with the key stakeholders associated with each heritage site including residents, visitors, business owners and government. The findings of both cases indicate that tourism has notable efficacy on tangible-heritage conservation and has limitations on intangible-heritage conservation because the historical connection between the original inhabitants and the heritage site is weakened. Several lessons can be learned from the development of tourism at these heritage sites. The effectiveness of tourism as a tool for heritage conservation and management can be improved when tourism adheres to certain development principles. Firstly that the original character of the heritage site is maintained and secondly that the historical ties that local residents and original inhabitants have to the site are respected so as to create a rich heritage context for both local residents and tourists.

Exploring Light Industries’ Supply Chain Costs through Multi-Objective Optimization

        Tracey Tshivhase,Yasutaka Kainuma 대한산업공학회 2020 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.19 No.4

Environmental impact of greenhouse gases in the supply chain has been a topic of major interest recent years. A bi-objective optimization problem is used to minimize the total cost and the nitrogen oxides in a typical light manufacturing industry. Nitrogen oxides are a well-known component of smog which reduces visibility in the atmosphere. This paper models a supply chain problem for cost minimization while also considering the nitrogen emissions from the facilities and transportation. Initially, the total costs part of the bi-objective problem is solved as a mixed integer linear problem using the genetic algorithm. The model minimizes the total costs of the supply chain including transportation costs. The proposed MILP is tested with random data of 11 different sets. The facilities and transportation options are limited by their capacities. A genetic algorithm in MATLAB was initially used for solving the first objective function. For better results, the model was finally solved with particle swarm optimization.

딥러닝을 이용한 장기 파랑예측 가능성 연구

        Tracey H.A. Tom,Hajime Mase,Makoto Hasegawa,정재훈(Jae-Hoon Jeong),윤종성(Jong-Sung Yoon),김연중(Yeon-Joong Kim) 한국연안방재학회 2020 한국연안방재학회지 Vol.7 No.4

Numerical wave prediction models require a large amount of computational power to timely complete the required calculations. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have been introduced to perform predictions at a lesser computational cost and increased processing speed. Deep learning and specifically Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have become accepted for various image recognition applications. Motivation for the examination of wave prediction by deep learning came from the success of CNN in vision applications and the similarity of meteorological weather grid data to visual images. This study investigates a deep learning technique using the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Grid Point Value Mesoscale Model to predict wave height and period. In particular, this study uses the Xception deep learning architecture with depthwise separable convolution to obtain improved wave height and period prediction over artificial neural networks, and gets overall success results.

Prevalence and outcomes of acute respiratory distress syndrome in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: a systematic review and meta-analysis

        Fan Tracey H.,Huang Merry,Price Carrie,Premraj Lavienraj,Kannapadi Nivedha V.,Suarez Jose I.,Cho Sung-Min 대한신경집중치료학회 2022 대한신경집중치료학회지 Vol.15 No.1

Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate the prevalence, timing, risk factors, and outcomes of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Methods: PubMed and four other databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies of patients 18 years or older through October 20, 2021. Study quality was assessed, using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool for RCTs and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cohort and case-control studies. High-grade aSAH was defined as a Hunt-Hess grade≥3 and/or a modified Fisher score≥3. A good neurological outcome was defined as a Glasgow Outcome Scale score ≥4. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted to estimate the pooled outcome prevalence and 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: Eleven observational studies (n=6,107) met the inclusion criteria. Overall, 15% of the patients (95% CI=10.5–20.0; I2=97.8%) developed ARDS after aSAH, with a mean time of 3 days (95% CI=1.9–3.7; I2=54%). Overall survival at discharge was 80% (95% CI=75–86; I2=96%), and 67% of aSAH patients (95% CI=54.9–78.9; I2=94%) had a good neurological outcome at any time. The aSAH cohort without ARDS had a higher rate of survival than those with ARDS (79% vs. 49%, P=0.028). Male sex, patients with a high-grade aSAH, patients who developed pneumonia, and systemic inflammatory response syndrome during hospital admission were at a higher risk of developing ARDS.Conclusion: In this meta-analysis, approximately one in six patients developed ARDS after aSAH, with a mean time of 3 days from the initial presentation, and ARDS was associated with increased mortality.

      • Early Childhood Curriculum Comparison: Aotearoa New Zealand and Malaysia

Carlyon Tracey,Cameron Monica,Maxwell Avril,Woolston Debbie,Hue Chew Kuen Jayce,Ngadni Izawati The Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Ass 2023 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhoo Vol.17 No.3

This article reports on a collaborative study examining Aotearoa New Zealand’s Te Whāriki and Malaysia’s National Preschool Standard-based Curriculum (NPSC). The similarities and differences focus on the diverse cultural and historical contexts, philosophies, frameworks, theories and approaches of the two curricula for children aged four-six years. The curriculum structure and framework, and its relation to the curriculum in practice, were prominent in the study. Both curricula see the child as being at the centre of all that happens, and both seek to support children for their future. NPSC focuses on more formal and teacher-led experiences within a play-based programme, while Te Whāriki is non-prescriptive and focuses on life-long learning. The nationalistic focus of NPSC has significant influence with the emphasis on King, country and building unity across the diverse population. On the other hand, the focus of Te Whāriki is on children’s potential and the knowledge that early childhood education (ECE) promotes building a solid foundation for further education and life. Examples of differences such as these provide opportunities to learn about the priorities and aspirations of different nations through their ECE curricula. Findings indicated that culture was a significant feature in the two ECE curricula.

Methed for the Passaging of Microcarrier Cultures to a Production Scale for Producing High Titre Disabled Infectious Single Cycle-Herpes Simplex virus Type-2

Zecchini, Tracey-Ann,Wright, Paul-Andrew,Smith, Rodney-John The Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengine 2000 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.5 No.2

A comlementary call line CR2 is curretly used to propagte the Disabled Infectious Single Cycle Herpes Simplex Virus Typee2 (DISC HSV-2) on a small Iaboratory scale upto 15 L. These cultures are initiated by passaging the cells from roller bottle cultures. Whilst this is suitable for the laboratory scale it is totally impractical for use in seeding an industrial manufacturing scaled version of the culture. It is paramount to have a robust system for passaging cells from a small microcarrierier culture system to a larger one by a serial subculturing regime. Here we report on the successes we have had in our laboratory in scaling up out production system for the DISC HSV-2 from small 1-L cultures to a 50-L vessel with the maintenance of the viral productivity. Ease of use, reproducibility and the need to minimise overall production time were factors which were taken into consideration whils developing our procedures. We were aware of the need to keep a production train simple and as short as possible as this was the amall scale study for an envisaged manufacturing process.

Secondary and tertiary treatments for multiple sclerosis patients with urinary symptoms

        James M Tracey,John T. Stoffel 대한비뇨의학회 2016 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.57 No.6

Multiple sclerosis patients with refractory urinary symptoms after treatment with behavioral therapy and medications still have treatment options. Prior to starting treatments, baseline symptoms should be assessed and treatment goals thoroughly discussed. Catheterization, botulinum toxin, and reconstructive surgery all can play a role in improving both safety and quality of life for these patients. Newer modalities, such as neuromodulation, may also have an increasing role in the future as more data develop regarding efficacy. Risks need to be weighed against any perceived benefit and disease status before more aggressive therapy is initiated.

Safety and Tolerability of Docetaxel, Cyclophosphamide, and Trastuzumab Compared to Standard Trastuzumab-Based Chemotherapy Regimens for Early-Stage Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2-Positive Breast Cancer

        Potjana Jitawatanarat,Tracey L. O’Connor,Ellen B. Kossoff,Ellis G. Levine,Kaweesak Chittawatanarat,Nuttapong Ngamphaiboon 한국유방암학회 2014 Journal of breast cancer Vol.17 No.4

Purpose: We evaluated the tolerability and cardiac safety ofdocetaxel, cyclophosphamide, and trastuzumab (TCyH) for thetreatment of early-stage human epidermal growth factor receptor2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer and compared to the standardtrastuzumab-based chemotherapy regimens doxorubicin withcyclophosphamide followed by paclitaxel and trastuzumab (ACTH)and docetaxel, carboplatin, and trastuzumab (TCaH). Methods:We retrospectively reviewed early-stage, resectable, HER2-positive breast cancer patients treated with trastuzumab-basedchemotherapy at a single comprehensive cancer center between2004 and 2011. Patient characteristics, comorbidities, relativedose intensity (RDI) of each regimen, tolerability, and cardiac toxicitywere evaluated. Results: One hundred seventy-seven patientswere included in the study (AC-TH, n=114; TCaH, n=39;TCyH, n=24). TCyH was solely administered in the adjuvant setting, whereas two-thirds of the AC-TH and TCaH groups wereadministered postoperatively. Patients treated with TCyH tendedto have a more significant underlying cardiac history, higherCharlson comorbidity index, and were of an earlier stage. All patientstreated with TCyH received granulocyte colony stimulatingfactor primary prophylaxis. No febrile neutropenia or grade ≥3hematologic toxicity was observed in the TCyH group as comparedto the AC-TH and TCaH groups. There were no significantdifferences in the rates of early termination, hospitalization, dosereduction, or RDI between the regimens. The symptomatic congestiveheart failure rate between AC-TH, TCaH, and TCyHgroups was not significantly different (4.4% vs. 2.6% vs. 8.3%,respectively, p=0.57). There was also no significant difference inthe rate of early trastuzumab termination between patients treatedwith each regimen. Conclusion: TCyH is well tolerated andshould be investigated as an alternative adjuvant chemotherapyoption for patients who are not candidates for standard trastuzumab-containing regimens. Larger clinical trials are necessary tosupport the wider use of TCyH as an adjuvant regimen.

      • Field studies: inspiring critical-thinking global citizens

        Rigling Cindy,Wood Tracey,Thier Michael 한국다문화교육학회 2021 Multicultural Education Review Vol.13 No.3

Based on elementary and secondary schoolwide implementation experiences at GEMS World Academy Chicago, this paper defines ‘field studies’ as a field-trip adaptation that connects curricular targets from one or more disciplines to student-directed inquiry-based experiences. We detail the process to develop and coordinate a schoolwide field-study programme: transdisciplinary experiences focused on student agency, authentic data-collection opportunities, and reflections to inform and subsequent learning. We report exemplar field studies, our lessons learned, practical guidance, and links between students’ field-study experiences and their development as global citizens. We regard the field study as a promising practice that can suit most any school if educators consider the diverse characteristics and needs of their learning communities. The field study can advance the aim of global citizenship education due to an outward-facing nature that enables students to explore with criticality that which is local and that which is global.
