Recovering Incomplete Data using Tucker Model for Tensor with Low-n-rank

Thieu, Thao Nguyen,Yang, Hyung-Jeong,Vu, Tien Duong,Kim, Sun-Hee The Korea Contents Association 2016 International Journal of Contents Vol.12 No.3

Tensor with missing or incomplete values is a ubiquitous problem in various fields such as biomedical signal processing, image processing, and social network analysis. In this paper, we considered how to reconstruct a dataset with missing values by using tensor form which is called tensor completion process. We applied Tucker factorization to solve tensor completion which was built base on optimization problem. We formulated the optimization objective function using components of Tucker model after decomposing. The weighted least square matric contained only known values of the tensor with low rank in its modes. A first order optimization method, namely Nonlinear Conjugated Gradient, was applied to solve the optimization problem. We demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method in EEG signals with about 70% missing entries compared to other algorithms. The relative error was proposed to compare the difference between original tensor and the process output.

An Application of Tucker Decomposition for Detecting Epilepsy EEG signals

Thieu, Thao Nguyen,Yang, Hyung-Jeong Korea Multimedia Society 2015 The journal of multimedia information system Vol.2 No.2

Epileptic Seizure is a popular brain disease in the world. It affects the nervous system and the activities of brain function that make a person who has seizure signs cannot control and predict his actions. Based on the Electroencephalography (EEG) signals which are recorded from human or animal brains, the scientists use many methods to detect and recognize the abnormal activities of brain. Tucker model is investigated to solve this problem. Tucker decomposition is known as a higher-order form of Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), a well-known algorithm for decomposing a matric. It is widely used to extract good features of a tensor. After decomposing, the result of Tucker decomposition is a core tensor and some factor matrices along each mode. This core tensor contains a number of the best information of original data. In this paper, we used Tucker decomposition as a way to obtain good features. Training data is primarily applied into the core tensor and the remained matrices will be combined with the test data to build the Tucker base that is used for testing. Using core tensor makes the process simpler and obtains higher accuracies.

The Application of Strategic Management Accounting: Evidence from the Consumer Goods Industry in Vietnam

Thieu Manh NGUYEN,Thanh Thi NGUYEN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.10

This article analyzes factors affecting the application of strategic management accounting in different enterprises in Vietnam’s consumer goods industry, providing more empirical evidence on factors affecting the application of strategic management accounting. The research method used a questionnaire survey of managers at all levels, chief accountants, and accountants from 72 consumer goods enterprises in Vietnam. The survey results collected 290 questionnaires, however, due to invalid questionnaires with many blank cells, 284 questionnaires were finally selected. Quantitative research was carried out with SPSS 25 software. Research results show that 6 factors have a positive influence on the application of strategic management accounting including awareness of the business market, business strategy, technology, corporate culture, qualification of management accountants, decentralization of management, in which technology has the strongest influence on the application of strategic management accounting in consumer goods enterprises in Vietnam. The standardized Beta coefficient extracted from the multiple linear regression equation reveals that the technology factor has a high standardized Beta coefficient (0.176) compared to other factors. Based on the research results, the author has proposed recommendations to improve the ability of consumer goods businesses to successfully apply strategic management accounting techniques, thereby contributing to improving competitiveness and performance of consumer goods enterprises.

      • Incorporation of a Pd catalyst at the fuel electrode of a thin-film-based solid oxide cell by multi-layer deposition and its impact on low-temperature co-electrolysis

        Thieu, C. A.,Hong, J.,Kim, H.,Yoon, K.,Lee, J. H.,Kim, B. K.,Son, J. W. Royal Society of Chemistry 2017 Journal of Materials Chemistry A Vol.5 No.16

<P>To enhance the electrochemical performance and syngas production in low-temperature co-electrolysis (LT-Co-EC), incorporation of Pd into the nickel-yttria-stabilized zirconia (Ni-YSZ) fuel electrode functional layer (FEFL) of a thin film-based solid oxide cell (TF-SOC) by multi-layer thin film deposition was investigated. The optimal configuration to insert a Pd layer without disturbing the surface and cross-sectional microstructure of the FEFL was fabricated by alternating multi-layer deposition of Pd by sputtering and nickel oxide-yttria-stabilized zirconia (NiO-YSZ) by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). TF-SOCs with Pd (Pd-cell) and without Pd (Ref-cell) were fabricated and compared based on the electrochemical reaction and syngas production in LT-Co-EC. The results showed that the catalytic activity by forming the Pd-Ni alloy on the electrochemical performance and thermochemical reaction are improved by Pd incorporation at low temperatures (<= 600 degrees C). Detailed microstructural analyses showed that Pd distributes from the electrode/electrolyte interface to a depth of several tens of microns in the anode support and forms a nano-structured Ni-Pd alloy, which contributes to improving the electrochemical reaction and thermochemical reactions such as water-gas-shift (WGS). It was also found that the performance stability was superior in the Pd-cell because pore array generation at the electrolyte/electrode interface was significantly suppressed in comparison with that of the Ref-cell.</P>

      • Palladium incorporation at the anode of thin-film solid oxide fuel cells and its effect on direct utilization of butane fuel at 600 °C

        Thieu, Cam-Anh,Ji, Ho-Il,Kim, Hyoungchul,Yoon, Kyung Joong,Lee, Jong-Ho,Son, Ji-Won Elsevier 2019 APPLIED ENERGY Vol.243 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Fuel flexibility, which is one of the most important advantages of the solid oxide fuel cell, can be compromised at lower operating temperatures. Thus in this study, normal butane is selected as the fuel and multiscale-architectured thin-film-based solid oxide fuel cells are operated in direct butane utilization mode at T = 600 °C. Palladium (Pd) is chosen as the secondary catalyst to assist the reforming of the butane and is inserted at different positions at the anode. By combining two different Pd insertion methods, sputtering and infiltration, four different thin-film-based solid oxide fuel cells were prepared: (1) the cell without Pd (Ref-cell); (2) the cell with Pd at the anode functional layer, which was fabricated by alternating sputtered Pd layers with pulsed-laser deposited NiO/yttria-stabilized zirconia layers (Pd-S-cell); (3) the cell with Pd at the anode support, which was fabricated by infiltration (Ref-I-cell); and (4) the cell with Pd at both the anode functional layer and anode support (Pd-S-I-cell). As expected, different Pd distributions were observed along the thickness of the anode. The Pd-S-I-cell showed significant enhancement in performance and durability. Approximately three times cell performance enhancement for the best case is observed in comparison with that of the Ref-cell. The Pd distribution, not only at the anode functional layer but also at the anode support, appears to have accelerated the electrochemical and thermochemical reactions. In addition, a lesser degree of carbon deposition was observed at the anode of the Pd-S-I-cell as compared with the case of the others.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The fuel flexibility of thin-film-based solid oxide fuel cell is studied. </LI> <LI> Sputtering and infiltration are combined to add Pd at different anode positions. </LI> <LI> Thin-film-based cells were operated over butane direct utilization of at 600 °C. </LI> <LI> Pd appears to contribute to water-gas shift and steam reforming reaction. </LI> <LI> Pd improves electrochemical reaction through increasing hydrogen supply. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

$P$-extremal functions and Bernstein-Markov properties associated to compact sets in $\mathbb R^d$

        Hoang Thieu Anh,Kieu Phuong Chi,Nguyen Quang Dieu,Tang Van Long 대한수학회 2022 대한수학회보 Vol.59 No.4

Given a compact subset $P \subset (\R^+)^d$ and a compact set $K$ in $\C^d$. We concern with the Bernstein-Markov properties of the triple $(P,K,\mu)$ where $\mu$ is a finite positive Borel measure with compact support $K$. Our approach uses (global) $P$-extremal functions which is inspired by the classical case (when $P=\Sigma$ the unit simplex) in \cite{BloomLe99}.
