Purpose: A change in diagnosis from ulcerative colitis (UC) to Crohn's disease (CD) has been reported in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease; however, only a few clinical characteristics and predictors of this diagnostic change have been reported. We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics of patients with UC who underwent a change in diagnosis to CD and identify variables associated with the change. Methods: The medical records of pediatric patients with UC who were followed up at the National Center for Child Health and Development between 2006 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical data on disease phenotype, laboratory parameters, endoscopic findings, and treatment of patients whose diagnosis changed to CD (cCD) were compared to those of patients whose diagnosis remained UC (rUC). Results: Among the 111 patients initially diagnosed with UC, 11 (9.9%) patients were subsequently diagnosed with CD during follow-up. There was no significant difference between the cCD and rUC groups in terms of sex, age at initial diagnosis, and the extent and severity of disease at initial diagnosis. Albumin and hemoglobin levels were significantly lower in the cCD group than in the rUC group. The proportion of patients who required biologics was significantly higher in the cCD group than in the rUC group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Approximately 10% children initially diagnosed with UC were subsequently diagnosed with CD. Hypoalbuminemia and anemia at initial diagnosis and use of biologics could be predictors of this diagnostic change.

Functionally graded multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) reinforced epoxy matrix compo-sites are fabricated using a centrifugal method. Aggregation of the MWCNTs during the epoxycuring process is prevented using a two-step aminosilane modifcation. Chemical interaction ofthe silane with the oxidized nanotube surface is con¯rmed using Fourier transform infraredspectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy of acid-treatedMWCNTs corroborates the formation of surface defects owing to the introduction of carboxylgroups. The mechanical and microwave absorption property gradients of the composites correfspond with those produced via silane modifcation indicating potential application to microwaveabsorbing materials. The MWCNTs are better dispersed in the epoxy resin after the modi¯cation, making it possible for them to become e±ciently graded in the epoxy matrix. We therefore show that it is possible to fabricate functionally graded nano¯ller-reinforced materials using thecentrifugal method by modifying the surface of the nanofller.
Conductivity stability of carbon nanofiber/unsaturated polyester nanocomposites

Carbon nanofiber (CNF)/unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) was prepared by a solvent evaporation method, and the temperature dependency of electrical conductivity was investigated. The CNF/UPR composites had quite a low percolation threshold due to CNF having a larger aspect ratio and being well dispersed in the UPR matrix. The positive temperature coefficient (PTC) was found in the CNF/UPR composites and it showed stronger effect around the percolation threshold. The electrical resistance of the CNF/UPR composites decreased and had lower temperature dependency with increasing numbers of thermal cycles.

A UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) currently developed by the authors is a kind of flying wing. One of features of the UAV is its capability of vertical takeoff and landing as a tail-sitter. Thus, it is possible to operate it flexibly by reducing the space restrictions on the takeoff and landing. In this work, we designed a gain-scheduled controller for the vertical takeoff and landing, which can vary the control gain in accordance with the varying state of the vehicle. We applied a method that solves Lyapunov stability conditions on all the design points simultaneously by using linear matrix inequalities (LMI). The effectiveness of the controller is demonstrated through the numerical simulations.

This paper describes dynamic properties and a night control system of an MAY (mini aerial vehicle) hal ing a side-force fin. We are developing a nonlinear model of the MAY through flight/wind tunnel experiments and CFD anal) sis. A linear model is obtained from the current nonlinear model. Using the linear model, we have designed a !light control system (FCS) that controls the altitude, forward speed, roll angle. and heading angle with thrust. elevator. aileron. and the sideforce fin. respectively. The side-force fin produces direct side-force that achieves skid-to-turn without bank in cooperation with the aileron. The FCS is designed as a PID control system, whose gains are determined based on the integral-type optimal servo, Although the design method has theoretically not been established, it provides PID gains via a simple design procedure and its usefulness and effectiveness have been proved through various design examples, Also in this study, computer simulation and analysis demonstrate how the FCS works.
