A TiO2:Nd formed on Si(100) substrate by laser ablation. The TiO2:Nd shows IR emissions at room temperature. The superconducting magnet was used for applied of a magnetic field. Magnetic field intensity was changed from 0.0 T (Tesla) to 8.0 T with PL measurement at room temperature. The sharp intense PL peak at 913.5 nm, 933.3 nm, 954.6 nm, 1093.7 nm and 1382.7 nm originating from the intra-4f shell transition in Nd<SUP>3+</SUP> ions was observed. The spectrum form change was according to the Zeeman effect with the rise of magnetic field intensity.

New lubrication mechanism for nanomachine is proposed. This mechanism utilizes the effect of diffusive double layer observed in hydrophobic colloidal solution. Basic idea of the theory is inspired by the research for possible mechanism of bacterial flagellar motor. In this study, formulation of this mechanism is achieved and numerical calculation is performed. It is shown that this mechanism can produce enough load capacitance. Bromate formation and BAC removal in drinking water treatment process

AbstractOzonation of water that has been effected by seawater intrusion or bromide contamination, inevitably results in significant bromate formation. Seasonal changes in bromate formation in water containing a high concentration of bromide were investigated at an experimental ozonation plant. When operational ozone conditions were set to maintain ozone residue at a constant level, bromate formation was significantly correlated with temperature, E260, color, and ozone dose. In GAC(granular activated carbon) column experiments, the bromate removal rate apparently decreased during transition from GAC to BAC (biological activated carbon) following ozonation. Batch experiments confirmed GAC's capacity and BAC's inability to reduce bromate ions to bromide ions. Ozonation conditions must be optimized to minimize bromate and other by-products'formation while maintaining target levels of substance removal.
Deliberation of fluorescent material by used in low temperature measurement

A possibility of low temperature measurement using fluorescence material was examined. Temperature dependence of fluorescence lifetime applied to low temperature measurement. Inorganic fluorescence material is known as a suitable sensor material for temperature measurement. Ruby was used as a sensor material because of bright fluorescence and long fluorescence lifetime. Fluorescence thermometer using the ruby which is modified for temperature measurement has been fabricated. From this research, ruby crystal is found to be useful as the sensor head for fluorescence thermometer. In addition, the ruby crystal is potentially useful material for the sensor head crystals to measure low temperature below 273K.
