<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report the effects of various tensile velocities on the nanocrack formation in a Pd thin film on an elastomeric polydimethylsiloxane substrate and its H2 sensing properties. A tunable nanocrack along the <I>x</I> and <I>y</I> axes was created by mechanical stretching/compression cycles with varying tensile velocities. From the microstructural analyses, we found that the tensile velocity has a significant effect on the crack density but little effect on the average crack width. The Pd nanogap sensor prepared under a high tensile velocity showed a high performance with a low detection limit of 500ppm of H2 in air. Our results indicate that the higher crack density with the narrow nanocrack width (55–100nm) propagated over the entire film provides the enhanced H2 sensing properties in air.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The effects of various tensile velocities on nanocrack formation were studied. </LI> <LI> A tunable nanocrack was created by mechanical stretching/compression cycles. </LI> <LI> The tensile velocity was found to have a significant effect on the crack density. </LI> <LI> A low detection limit of 500ppm of H2 in air was demonstrated. </LI> <LI> Narrow nanocracks (w: 55–100nm) and high crack density provides enhanced sensing properties in air. </LI> </UL> </P>

Migrant workers face challenging working conditions, resulting in physical and mental vulnerability. The objective is to identify their health vulnerabilities and ensure their right to health. Health records of 163 migrant workers (113 males and 50 females) (Group A) and 163 Korean citizens (Group B) visiting our institution were analyzed from August 2021 to July 2022. Both groups underwent urine analysis, chest radiography, and various blood tests. Statistical analysis using independent t-tests and χ2 tests was performed. Group A had a significantly higher rate of hepatitis B virus surface antigen-positive patients, lower vaccination rates for hepatitis B, and poorer nutritional status compared to Group B. Group B generally exhibited higher levels of albumin, glucose, total cholesterol, and thyroidstimulating hormone. There were significant quantitative differences in multiple blood cell and hemoglobin measurements between the two groups. These findings emphasize the need for policy support and public awareness to protect the health rights of migrant workers.

<P>In most cases in wireless networks, a user has a two-way communication that consists of two sessions: uplink and downlink sessions, and its overall satisfaction to the communication depends on the quality of service of both sessions. However, in most previous approaches in wireless resource allocation, the satisfactions of a user for its uplink and downlink sessions are modeled separately and treated independently, which fails to accurately model user's overall satisfaction to its communication. Hence, in this paper we model user's overall satisfaction to its communication considering both its uplink and downlink sessions. To this end, we propose a novel concept for a utility function to model user's overall satisfaction to its communication, which is called a <I>user-level utility function</I>, considering user's satisfaction to uplink and downlink sessions jointly. To show the appropriateness of our approach, we apply our user-level utility functions to scheduling problems in TDMA wireless networks and show the performance improvement of our approach over the traditional approach that does not treat uplink and downlink sessions of a user jointly.</P>
Pre-service Teachers` Experience of Online Content-based English Writing
( Sungyeon Kim ),( Bokyoung Park ) 한국멀티미디어언어교육학회 2015 Multimedia Assisted Language Learning Vol.18 No.2
This study investigated pre-service English teachers`` experience of online content-based English writing with a focus on their writing skills and writing attitudes. For the purpose of the study, six college students were recruited to participate in an academic learning program that was designed to assist their writing development. During eight weeks of writing practice, the students were asked to perform content-based writing tasks. They submitted two drafts, via email, for the same writing prompt each week and received two-stage feedback from a native speaker for each draft. They were also asked to keep learning logs after completing each task. At the same time, they were asked to take pre- and post-tests: essay writing tests, two types of vocabulary tests, and attitude questionnaires. The study found positive changes in the students`` writing ability, vocabulary knowledge, and writing attitudes. With regard to feedback, the students believed that it was nicely balanced, covering all three categories: content, organization, and form. The students, however, reported some difficulty in interpreting content-focused feedback or feedback that implicitly suggested areas for improvement.

In this study, a road friction estimation and TCS control algorithms were proposed for an in-wheel electric vehicle. Road friction estimation algorithm estimates the road friction when the vehicle is running on a slippery road based on the vehicle dynamics and sensor measurements. Furthermore, the proposed method does not used tire characteristic map, so it is robust for change of tire at real vehicle. TCS control algorithm controls each of wheels using in-wheel motor when the vehicle slip on a slippery road. As a result, the vehicle is running on a slippery road safely by using TCS control algorithm. To validate of the proposed road friction estimation and TCS control algorithm, a co-simulator was developed, which combined the vehicle performance simulator based on MATLAB/Simulink and the vehicle model of CarSim.

In this study, a co-operative regenerative braking control algorithm for the HEV with an electric booster brake was proposed and its performance was evaluated. A dynamic model for the electric booster performance simulator and its performance was investigated. In addition, a dynamic model for the 6-speed AT based hybird vehicle was established to develop a performance simulator, and it was combined with the electric booster brake performance simulator. Considering the electric booster brake structure, a strategy was proposed to distribute the braking force and regenerative braking force using the electric booster brake. A co-operative regenerative braking control algorithm was proposed, wherein the regenerative torque is cut off to ensure ride comfort and maintain the braking force during downshift for braking, and then regenerative torque is controlled considering the electric booster brake response characteristic. The combined performance simulator was used to evaluate the performance of the electric booster brake and the co-operative control algorithm, and the results indicated that the desired braking force was maintained and that the deceleration change decreased.
