      • CT 영상을 이용한 체지방의 체적 및 비율 계산

        본 논문은 CT 영상을 이용하여 체지방과 근육의 체적 및 비율을 분석하는 알고리즘 개발에 대하여 기술한다. CT 영상에는 체지방, 근육, 공기, 뼈등의 구성성분들이 서로 다른 명암값을 가지고 분포한다. 이 논문에서는 히스토그램을 통하여 각 구성성분에 대한 명암값을 찾아내었다. 찾아낸 명암값에 따라 체지방과 근육 그리고 뼈, 공기에 각각 색을 입혀 시각적으로 표현하여 체지방과 근육의 분포와 비율을 볼 수 있는 환경을 만들고 수치적으로 체적 및 비율의 결과 값을 출력하는 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 또한 단계적인 체지방 측정 프로그램을 위해 DB 환경을 구축하여 모든 자료를 저장하고 불러올 수 있는 환경을 만들어 체지방 측정 알고리즘을 완성하였다. 알고리즘은 돼지 실험에서 측정된 체지방과 비교하여 정확성을 검증한 결과 약 92.86%의 정확도를 보였다.

        Load Spread in Gusset Plates Connected with One and Two Bolts

        Steel gusset plates are used to connect two or more structural elements in a steel-framed structural system. The strength design of the gusset plate requires the calculation of the angle of load spread in the gusset plate, which is then used in determining its eff ective width. Current design guidelines usually use the Whitmore model for determining the angle of load spread in the gusset plate to calculate the eff ective width. Whitmore model of load spread may be suitable for gusset plate, which has multiple rows and columns of bolts since this model was developed based on test data obtained from such gusset plate connections. However, the gusset plates used in latticed antenna and electrical transmission towers usually have one bolt and sometimes two bolts in the line of load application. The literature review did not fi nd any research data or information on how to determine the angle of load spread in gusset plates to be used in such cases. Hence, this research was carried out using full-scale tests to determine the angle of load spread in gusset plates with one and two-bolt connections. The study found that the Whitmore model does not work for such gusset plate connections. The study recommended a new model for determining the load spread in gusset plates with one and two bolts.

        Experimental study on repair of corroded steel beam using CFRP

        It has been reported that more than thirty five percent of steel bridges in the USA are structurally deficient because of structural degradations. The degraded structures need either full replacement or rehabilitation such that they are able to provide the required services for a longer period of time. The cost for repair in most cases is far less than the cost of replacement. Moreover, repair method generally takes less time than replacement and also reduces service interruption time. Modern advanced composites have been used in aerospace and automotive fields since World War II. In the recent past, because of the high strength-to-weight ratio and high stiffness-to-weight ratio, these composite materials have been introduced to civil engineering infrastructures primarily for repair and rehabilitation of concrete structures. However, only a few preliminary studies on repair of corroded steel structures using theses composite materials are reported in the literature available in the public domain. Thus, in this study, a series of laboratory tests was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of this repair method using carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite. The paper discusses the test method and test results obtained from these tests.

        In combat operations, naval ships may be subjected to considerable air blast and underwater shock loads capable of causing severe structural damage. As the experimental study imposes great monetary and time cost, the numerical solution may provide a valuable alternative. This study emphasises on numerical analysis for optimization of stiffened and unstiffened plate's structural response subjected to air blast load. Linear and non linear finite element (FE) modeling and analysis was carried out and compared with existing experimental results. The obtained results reveal a good agreement between numerical and experimental observations. The presented FE models can eliminate confusion regarding parameters selection and FE operations processing, using commercial software available currently.
