Design and Implementation of Instantaneous Power Estimation Algorithm for Unified Power Conditioner

This paper discusses a simple control approach for a Unified Power Conditioner (UPC) system to achieve power quality compensation at the point of common coupling in distribution systems. The proposed Instantaneous Power Estimation Algorithm (IPEA) for shunt and series active power filters uses a simple mathematical concept that reduces the complexity in the design of the controller. The performance of a UPC is verified with a system subjected to voltage distortions, sags/swells and unbalanced loads using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation study shows that a UPC with the proposed control algorithm can effectively compensate for voltage and current harmonics, unbalance and reactive power. The control algorithm is experimentally implemented using dSPACE DS1104 and its effectiveness has been verified.

Apart from strength properties, durability, toughness and workability are also important criteria in defining the performance of a concrete structure. Hence “High Performance Concrete (HPC)” is introduced. It is different from high strength concrete and can have various applications. In this paper, the properties (Mechanical and Durability) of High Performance Concrete blended with bagasse ash at 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% are studied. However, it is difficult to analyze the performance based on different properties obtained from different experiments. Hence it is necessary to combine all the criteria/properties into a single value to obtain a result by a technique called Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP).It is an effective tool for dealing with complex decision making, and may aid the decision maker to set priorities and make the best decision. In addition, the AHP incorporates a useful technique for checking the consistency of the decision maker‟s evaluations, thus reducing the bias in the decision making process.

Increasing the storage capacity of portable electronic storage devices is one example of how energy storage and conversion have recently emerged as key research subjects for addressing social and environmental concerns. Metal fl uoride cathodes have recently received a lot of attention as potential components for high-performance lithium batteries. These cathodes have unique electrochemical properties that make them suitable for energy storage applications. The research looks into the electrochemical properties of numerous metal fl uorides, including transition metal fl uorides and rare earth metal fl uorides. The study fi nishes by emphasising metal fl uoride cathode applications in portable electronics, electric cars and grid energy storage.
