The study asserts some propositions for diversity programs in tourism and hospitality in cross-cultural settings. The theoretical contribution of the study is to explicate the cultural underpinnings of diversity management and the practical contribution consisted of the adoption of diversity policies and practices in global hospitality industry. Drawing on Hofstede’ cultural dimensions, the study highlights that the uncertainty avoidance and power distance have impact on diversity management programs.

      • Eclecticism as A City Tourism Strategy

( Hakan Sezerel ),( Burak Duz ) 세계문화관광학회 2016 International Journal of Culture and tourism Resea Vol.9 No.1

Extant literature is inconclusive on city tourism with destinations which lack attractions in terms of historical, cultural, and natural heritage having distinctive development processes. Reviewing the literature, research on eclecticism as a tourism strategy is rather limited. This study attempts to depict a unique tourism development of Eskisehir Province. For this purpose, activities in culture based tours in Eskisehir were examined. The data were collected using semi-structured face to face interviews with five tour guides. The results suggest that relying on imitation and out of context tourism investments attract people to visit a certain destination with a good marketing effort, and melting pot of several touristic images. The study contributes to the tourism literature by presenting an eclectic tourism perspective in developing destinations which are understudied.

      • The Selective Problem Solving Model (SPS) and Its Social Validity in Solving Mathematical Problems

Bilge Bal-Sezerel,Ugur Sak 대한사고개발학회 2013 The International Journal of Creativity & Problem Vol.23 No.1

The aim of this study was to investigate student acceptability as a form of social validation of the Selective Problem Solving (SPS) model that is used for developing creative problem solving skills, as well as for creatively solving problems. The model consists of six steps: definition of the target problem, identification of the source problem, solution of the target problem, construction of an original problem, solution of the original problem, and reflection. The study included 210 sixth and seventh-grade students in a city in the mid part of Turkey. A four-hour instruction consisting of two SPS lessons was designed and used for teaching in mathematics courses. A 20-item questionnaire was administered to the participants to measure their perceptions about the SPS after the instruction. One Sample t-test analysis showed that mean scores of all the items were higher than the criterion, meaning that students had high acceptability about the use of the SPS in teaching problem solving skills and creativity in mathematics. The results did not differ by gender, but by grade.
