Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Women
Samia Ayub,Christine HJ Won 대한수면연구학회 2019 Journal of sleep medicine Vol.16 No.2
Obstructive sleep apnea is known to be more prevalent in men. In women the prevalence varies throughout her life span as she goes through different stages; puberty, reproductive years, pregnancy and postmenopausal state. The disparity of prevalence within the lifespan of women and in comparison, to men is not only due to different pathophysiologic factors like upper airway anatomy, chemoreflexes, sex hormones but also due to under recognition of sleep disordered breathing in women due to atypical presentation and difference in polysomnographic phenotypes. This review summarizes the literature regarding sleep-disordered breathing in women, its pathophysiology, sex differences in phenotypes and implications of sex differences on management.

A novel series of 1-(1-benzofuran-2-yl-ethylidene)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazides (2a-d) along with some derived ring systems: substituted-2,3-dihydro-thiazoles (3a-c, 4a-f) and thiazolidin- 4-ones (5a-d and 6a-d), were synthesized. In addition, cyanoacetic acid-(1-benzofuran- 2-yl-ethylidene) hydrazide (7) was used to prepare another new series of compounds consisting of substituted pyridin-2(1H)-ones (8a-c); 2-thioxo-2,3-dihydro-thiazoles (9a-d) and 2-thioxo-2,3-dihydro-6H-thiazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidin-7-ones (10a-c, 11a-c). The absolute configuration of compound 5c was determined by X-ray crystallography. The compounds prepared were evaluated for their in vitro anti-HIV, anticancer, antibacterial, and antifungal activities. Among the tested compounds, compounds 5c and 9a produced a significant reduction ㅐㄹ the viral cytopathic effect (93.19% and 59.55%) at concentrations >2.0×10-4 M and 2.5×10-5 M respectively. Compound 9a was confirmed to have moderate anti-HIV activity. Compounds 2a, 2d, and 5c showed mild antifungal activity. However, none of the tested compounds showed any significant anticancer activity.

The purpose of this paper is to depict the effect of rotation and initial stress on a magneto-thermoelastic medium with diffusion. The problem discussed within memory-dependent derivative in the context of the three-phase-lag model (3PHL), Green-Naghdi theory of type III (G-N III) and Lord and Shulman theory (L-S). Analytical expressions of the considered variables are obtained by using Laplace-Fourier transforms technique. Numerical results for the field quantities given in the physical domain and illustrated graphically in the absence and presence of a magnetic field, initial stress as well as the rotation. The differences in variable thermal conductivity are also presented at different parameter of thermal conductivity. The numerical results of the field variables are presented graphically to discuss the effect of various parameters of interest. Some special cases are also deduced from the present investigation.

Previously, we synthesized and evaluated several benzofuran derivatives containing heterocyclic ring substituents linked to the benzofuran nucleus at C-2 by a two- to four-atom spacer as potential anti-HIV-1, anticancer and antimicrobial agents. Among these derivatives, NSC 725612 and NSC 725716 exhibited interesting anti-HIV-1 activity. To further investigate the structure-activity relationship, we synthesized several new benzofuran derivatives derived from 2-acetylbenzofuran (2, 3a-c) and 2-bromoacetylbenzofuran (6; 7a,b; 8a,b). The compounds were designed to comprise the heterocyclic substituents directly linked to the benzofuran nucleus at C-2. Moreover, various related benzimidazoles derived from 2-acetylbenzimidazole and from 2-cyanomethylbenzimidazole (12a,b; 13a,b; 15; 16a,b) were also prepared as isosteres. The synthesized compounds were preliminarily evaluated for their in vitro anti-HIV-1, anticancer and antimicrobial activity. Compounds 2, 3a, 3b, and 12b showed weak anti-HIV-1 activity. Compound 6 exhibited mild activity against S. aureus, while compound 15 had mild activity towards S. aureus and C. albicans. However, no significant anticancer activity was observed with any of the tested compounds. From these results, we conclude that the presence of the spacer between the heterocyclic substituent and the benzofuran nucleus may be essential for the biological activity.

A general model of equations of the two-temperature theory of generalized thermoelasticity is applied to study the wave propagation in a fiber-reinforced magneto-thermoelastic medium in the context of the three-phase-lag model and Green-Naghdi theory without energy dissipation. The material is a homogeneous isotropic elastic half-space. The exact expression of the displacement components, force stresses, thermodynamic temperature and conductive temperature is obtained by using normal mode analysis. The variations of the considered variables with the horizontal distance are illustrated graphically. Comparisons are made with the results of the two theories in the absence and presence of a magnetic field as well as a two-temperature parameter. A comparison is also made between the results of the two theories in the absence and presence of reinforcement.
Robust Adaptive Controller for the Diesel Engine Air Path with Input Saturation
Samia Larguech,Sinda Aloui,Olivier Pagès,Ahmed El Hajjaji,Abdessattar Chaari 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2019 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.17 No.10
In this paper, we design an adaptive controller for the diesel engine air path with a priori consideration of actuator saturation effects to regulate the exhaust manifold pressure and the compressor flow rate. The originality of the proposed approach is the integration of an auxiliary system to compensate the saturation effects. Simulation results of the diesel engine air path are given to show the efficiency of the proposed approach.
Impact of Rumors and Misinformation on COVID-19 in Social Media
Samia Tasnim,Md Mahbub Hossain,Hoimonty Mazumder 대한예방의학회 2020 예방의학회지 Vol.53 No.3
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has not only caused significant challenges for health systems all over the globe but also fueled the surge of numerous rumors, hoaxes, and misinformation, regarding the etiology, outcomes, prevention, and cure of the disease. Such spread of misinformation is masking healthy behaviors and promoting erroneous practices that increase the spread of the virus and ultimately result in poor physical and mental health outcomes among individuals. Myriad incidents of mishaps caused by these rumors have been reported globally. To address this issue, the frontline healthcare providers should be equipped with the most recent research findings and accurate information. The mass media, healthcare organization, community-based organizations, and other important stakeholders should build strategic partnerships and launch common platforms for disseminating authentic public health messages. Also, advanced technologies like natural language processing or data mining approaches should be applied in the detection and removal of online content with no scientific basis from all social media platforms. Furthermore, these practices should be controlled with regulatory and law enforcement measures alongside ensuring telemedicine-based services providing accurate information on COVID-19.
