K-Means Clustering with Deep Learning for Fingerprint Class Type Prediction
Mukoya, Esther,Rimiru, Richard,Kimwele, Michael,Mashava, Destine International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.3
In deep learning classification tasks, most models frequently assume that all labels are available for the training datasets. As such strategies to learn new concepts from unlabeled datasets are scarce. In fingerprint classification tasks, most of the fingerprint datasets are labelled using the subject/individual and fingerprint datasets labelled with finger type classes are scarce. In this paper, authors have developed approaches of classifying fingerprint images using the majorly known fingerprint classes. Our study provides a flexible method to learn new classes of fingerprints. Our classifier model combines both the clustering technique and use of deep learning to cluster and hence label the fingerprint images into appropriate classes. The K means clustering strategy explores the label uncertainty and high-density regions from unlabeled data to be clustered. Using similarity index, five clusters are created. Deep learning is then used to train a model using a publicly known fingerprint dataset with known finger class types. A prediction technique is then employed to predict the classes of the clusters from the trained model. Our proposed model is better and has less computational costs in learning new classes and hence significantly saving on labelling costs of fingerprint images.
COLORNET: Importance of Color Spaces in Content based Image Retrieval
Judy Gateri,Richard Rimiru,Micheal Kimwele International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2023 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.23 No.5
The mainstay of current image recovery frameworks is Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR). The most distinctive retrieval method involves the submission of an image query, after which the system extracts visual characteristics such as shape, color, and texture from the images. Most of the techniques use RGB color space to extract and classify images as it is the default color space of the images when those techniques fail to change the color space of the images. To determine the most effective color space for retrieving images, this research discusses the transformation of RGB to different color spaces, feature extraction, and usage of Convolutional Neural Networks for retrieval.

Unusual data patterns or outliers can be generated because of human errors, incorrect measurements, or malicious activities. Detecting outliers is a difficult task that requires complex ensembles. An ideal outlier detection ensemble should consider the strengths of individual base detectors while carefully combining their outputs to create a strong overall ensemble and achieve unbiased accuracy with minimal variance. Selecting and combining the outputs of dissimilar base learners is a challenging task. This paper proposes a model that utilizes heterogeneous base learners. It adaptively boosts the outcomes of preceding learners in the first phase by assigning weights and identifying high-performing learners based on their local domains, and then carefully fuses their outcomes in the second phase to improve overall accuracy. Experimental results from 10 benchmark datasets are used to train and test the proposed model. To investigate its accuracy in terms of separating outliers from inliers, the proposed model is tested and evaluated using accuracy metrics. The analyzed data are presented as crosstabs and percentages, followed by a descriptive method for synthesis and interpretation.
