Free vibration of core wall structure coupled with connecting beams

Wang, Quanfeng Techno-Press 2000 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.10 No.3

In this paper, a core wall structure coupled with connecting beams is discretized and modeled as an equivalent thin-walled member with closed section, while the connecting beams between openings are replaced by an equivalent shear diaphragm. Then, a numerical method (finite member element method, FMEM) for dynamic analysis of the core wall structure is proposed. The numerical method combines the advantages of the FMEM and Vlasov's thin-walled beam theory and the effects of torsion, warping and, especially, the shearing strains in the middle surface of the walls are considered. The results presented in this paper are very promising compared with the ones obtained from finite element method.

Seismic capacity of brick masonry walls externally bonded GFRP under in-plane loading

        Wang, Quanfeng,Chai, Zhenling,Wang, Lingyun Techno-Press 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.51 No.3

By carrying out the experiment of eight pieces of brick masonry walls with pilaster strengthened by Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) and one piece of normal masonry wall with pilaster under low reversed cyclic loading, the failure characteristic of every wall is explained; Seismic performances such as hysteresis, stiffness and its degeneration, deformation, energy consumption and influence of some measures including strengthening means, reinforcement area proportion between GFRP and wall surface, "through-wall" anchor on reinforcement effects are studied. The test results showed that strengthening modes have little influence on stiffness, stiffness degeneration and deformation of the wall, but it is another thing for energy consumption of the wall; The ultimate load, deformation and energy consumption of the walls reinforced by glass fiber sheets was increased remarkably, rigidity and its degeneration was slower; Seismic performance of the wall which considers strengthening means, reinforcement area proportion between GFRP and wall surface, "through-wall" anchor at the same time is better than under the other conditions.

Lateral buckling of thin-walled members with openings considering shear lag

Wang, Quanfeng Techno-Press 1997 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.5 No.4

The classical theory of thin-walled members is unable to reflect the shear lag phenomenon since it is based on the assumption of no shearing strains in the middle surface of the walls. In this paper, an energy equation for the lateral buckling of thin-walled members has been derived which includes the effects of torsion, warping and, especially, the shearing strains which reflect the shear lag phenomenon. A numerical analysis for the lateral buckling of thin-walled members with openings by using Galerkin's method of weighted residuals has been presented. The proposed numerical values and the predictions by experiment for the lateral buckling loads are to agree closely in the paper. The results from these comparisons show that the proposed method here is capable of predicting the lateral buckling of thin-walled members with openings. The fast convergence of the results indicates the numerical stability of the method. By the study, a very complex practical eigenvalue problem is transformed into a very simple one of solving only a linear equation with one variable.

Experimental investigation on the shear capacity of RC dapped end beams and design recommendations

        Wang, Quanfeng,Guo, Zixiong,Hoogenboom, Pierre C.J. Techno-Press 2005 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.21 No.2

In this paper, the shear resistance behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) dapped end beams is investigated by 24 tests until failure load. The main parameters considered are the dapped end height, the type and effective range to provided the stirrups and the bent form of the longitudinal reinforcement. The failure behaviour of dapped end beams is presented and some conclusions are given. Inclined stirrups and longitudinal bent reinforcement have more influence on the shear capacity than vertical stirrups. Additionally, the shear mechanism of dapped end beams is analysed. Relatively simple semi-empirical equations for shear strength have been derived based on the results of 22 dapped end beams. The predicted results are in close agreement with the experimental ones. Finally, some design suggestions for the ultimate shear strength of dapped end beams are presented.

      • Study on Dust Particle Deposition Movement in Pipe of FF System

Fan bailin,Huang ganghan,Wang Hongwei,Shan Quanfeng 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.9 No.2

The Particle deposition position and subside curve equation was studied. Particle depositing Para-curve formula was generated through the dust particle dynamic analysis in the pipe. Settlement nephogram and the trajectory curve of dust particle were obtained by FLUENT numerical simulation. Depositing velocity of particle was simulated and the simulation results, the calculated results and the experimental result were compared and analyzed. The particle motion was reflected by coordinate equation and parabolic curves were drawn for the particle No.65 in the z direction. Various depositing velocities in horizontal rectangle pipe under different particle diameter and flow velocity circumstances were compared to summarize motion patterns.

An Improved Phase-Shifted Carrier Pulse Width Modulation Based on the Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm for Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverters

        Xinjian Cai,Zhenxing Wu,Quanfeng Li,Shuxiu Wang 전력전자학회 2016 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.16 No.2

Cascaded H-bridge multilevel (CHBML) inverters usually include a large number of isolated dc-voltage sources. Some faults in the dc-voltage sources result in unequal cell dc voltages. Unfortunately, the conventional phase-shifted carrier (PSC) PWM method that is widely used for CHBML inverters cannot eliminate low frequency sideband harmonics when the cell dc voltages are not equal. This paper analyzes the principle of sideband harmonic elimination, and proposes an improved PSCPWM that can eliminate low frequency sideband harmonics under the condition of unequal dc voltages. In order to calculate the carrier phases, it is necessary to solve transcendental equations for low frequency sideband harmonic elimination. Therefore, an approach based on the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm is presented in this paper. The proposed PSCPWM method enhances the reliability of CHBML inverters. The proposed PSCPWM is not limited to CHBML inverters. It can also be applied to other types of multilevel inverters. Simulation and experimental result obtained from a prototype CHBML inverter verify the theoretical analysis and the achievements made in this paper.
