Intra Mode Selection for Depth Map Coding in 3D-HEVC

3D high efficiency video coding was recently standardized by the Joint Collaborative Team on 3D Video coding as an extension of high efficiency video coding. In the current 3D high efficiency video coding method, new depth intra modes including Depth Modeling Modes and Region Boundary Chain coding are used for depth map coding. These partition-based intra modes achieve the highest possible coding efficiency, but take an extremely long time, which hinders the practical application of the new standard. In this paper, we propose an efficient intra mode selection algorithm for depth map coding in 3D high efficiency video coding. It makes use of the coding information from a spatial neighboring depth map treeblock and the co-located texture video treeblock to predict the depth map intra mode treeblock and terminate its mode decision process early. The experimental results show that the proposed intra mode selection algorithm can achieve the average computational savings of about 40% with a negligible loss of rate distortion performance in 3D high efficiency video coding intra-only configuration.
A Fast Intra Mode Decision Algorithm for HEVC Using Sobel Operator in Edge Detection

As a successor to H.264/AVC, High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard has an outstanding performance than before. To make the coding efficiency higher, one introduced new coding feature in HEVC is adding intra prediction modes up to 35 instead of 9 in H.264, but it increases calculation complexity. To save the coding time, this paper proposes a fast intra mode decision algorithm based on edge detection technology using sobel operator. Because of the principle that sobel operator can find the texture edge directly, the proposed algorithm can save large numbers of coding time with only a little BD-rate rising. Experimental results show that the proposed fast intra mode decision algorithm can save 38.8% computational complexity on average with a 1.6% BD-rate rise.
Applications of GIS in Information Management for Urban Rainfall-Runoff Simulation

Researches for urban rainfall-runoff simulation are inseparable from the hydrological information. However, this information is always composed of large amount of multi-source and heterogeneous data, which will bring significant difficulties to the information organization and management systems. In this paper, Geographical Information System (GIS), a specialized information system for the spatial information is introduced into the studies of urban rainfall-runoff simulation (URRS), in which a series of applications are presented. In these applications, hydrological information in urban region is collected, stored and processed by the spatial data storage, analysis and visualization abilities of GIS. The applications show that the integration of GIS and hydrological information is feasible in URRS and has achieved remarkable results, which can provide a strong data support to the simulation and control of urban storm water disaster.
