Wielki słownik języka polskiego (The Great Polish Dictionary) – presentation of the project

The process of preparation of WSJP is divided at least in two stages. The first stage is now in progress and will be completed till the end of 2012. Its objective is to provide complete lexicographic information of 15 thousand so-called lexical nests. Lexical nest is a set of lexical items (one word or multiword – idioms, proverbs, phrasemes) which contain a particular word. For example, the lexical nest GŁOWA ‘head’ includes a noun głowa (which has in contemporary Polish – according to the USJP – at least 5 meanings) and about 180 idioms, phrasemes or proverbs. Additionally, we put into the dictionary some regular derivatives, like a relational adjectives, deadjectival adverbs, lexicalised gerundials and reflexive verbs. The expected result will be an electronic lexicographic material equivalent to above 1000 pages printed dictionary. Some trial dictionary entries are already available at the dictionary website: http://wsjp.pl. This service will be succcesively improved. I hope that after 2012 the works on the dictionary will be continued, in order to give lexicographic description of almost all lexical items of Polish. W artykule przedstawiam szkicowo projekt Wielkiego słownika języka polskiego, realizowany w Instytucie Języka Polskiego Polskiej Akademii Nauk. Celem projektu jest opracowanie słownika ogólnego współczesnej polszczyzny, w formie elektronicznej, dostepnego przez Internet. Opisuję ogólną koncepcję słownika, jego makro- i mikrostrukturę, jak również niektóre techniczne aspekty przedsięwzięcia.
