Earthquake Response of CFT Frames Forming an Inner-column Yield Mechanism

This paper presents experimental results on the fire-resistance of concrete filled steel tube (CFST) columns without fireprotection. Twenty of CFST column specimens, with square or circular sections of 30m to 40m in size, were heated fortwo hours in acordance with KSF 2257 (equivalent to ASTM E119 and JIS A 1304). For evaluating the fire resistance of CFSTdimensions, concrete strength, and effective heating length. Comparison was made with predicted fire resistance using theexisting design codes such as Eurocode part 4 and AIJ code. It was found that the calculation method in Eurocode and AIJcode was satisfactory to predicting the fire resistance and temperature in the cross section.
