Cephennomicrus Reitter of New Caledonia (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Scydmaeninae)
Paweł Jałoszyński 한국응용곤충학회 2017 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.20 No.2
Cephennomicrus Reitter is a large genus of the cephenniine ant-like stone beetles (Staphylinidae: Scydmaeninae) distributed in the Afrotropical, Oriental, Australia and South Pacific. Adults of most species do not reach 1mmof body length; they are rarely collected, and typically only male characters are useful for species diagnoses; for those reasons systematics of this genus is a challenging task. Only one species was previously known to occur in NewCaledonia, an unusually pigmented, bicolored C. caledonicus (Franz). Based on newly collected specimens, C. caledonicus is redescribed and C. wanati sp.n. is described. The NewCaledonian species have unusually uniform and long vestiture of setae, and the newly described species is the third (and first outside Africa) known Cephennomicrus showing male dimorphic characters not on the head, as in many other congeners, but on the elytra.
