Influence of Al2O3 Content and Cooling Rate on Crystallization in Fe2O3–CaO–SiO2–Al2O3 Systems
Tae Jun Park,Joon Sung Choi,Dong Joon Min 대한금속·재료학회 2022 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.28 No.9
The behavior of silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum (SFCA) phases and the influence of sintered ore quality were investigatedusing a confocal laser scanning microscope to understand how the Al2O3content of iron ore affects the sintered orestructure and the crystallization behavior of SFCA in a Fe2O3–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 pseudo-quaternary system. The experimentalresults were used to inform simulations of the heterogeneous dynamic behavior in response to the rapid temperature changesand various chemical compositions typically encountered in actual sintering processes. Increasing the Al2O3content in theFe2O3–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 pseudo-quaternary system led to the hematite content decreasing, which affects the reducibilityof the sintered ore. The correlation between the creation of SFCA and the cooling effect associated with varying the Al2O3is discussed in detail.

<P>Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second leading neurodegenerative disease, and is known to be induced by environmental factors or genetic mutations. Among the verified genetic mutations of PD, Parkin, isolated from the PARK2 locus, shows an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern and is known to be an E3 ligase. However, the physiological target of Parkin and the molecular mechanism of Parkin-deficiency-induced PD have not been clearly demonstrated until now. It has recently been proposed that inflammation, suggesting as a causal factor for PD, is enhanced by Parkin deficiency. Thus, we examined the relationship between inflammation-related factors and Parkin. Here, we provide the evidence that Parkin suppresses inflammation and cytokine-induced cell death by promoting the proteasomal degradation of TRAF2/6 (TNF-α receptor-associated factor 2/6). Overexpression of Parkin can reduce the half-lives of TRAF2 and TRAF6, whereas si-Parkin can extend them. However, mutant Parkins did not alter the expression of TRAF2/6. Thus, loss of Parkin enhances sensitivity to TNF-α- or IL-1β-induced JNK activation and NF-κB activation. Indeed, si-Parkin-induced apoptosis is suppressed by the knockdown of TRAF6 or TRAF2. We also observed elevated expression levels of TRAF6 and a reduction of IκB in an 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-induced PD mouse model. Moreover, elevated expression levels or aggregation of TRAF6 were detected in approximately half of the human PD tissues (7/15 cases) and 2 cases, respectively. In addition, TRAF6 and Parkin expression levels show a reverse relationship in human PD tissues. Our results strongly suggest that the reduction of Parkin or overexpression of TRAF2/6 by chronic inflammation would be the reason for occurrence of PD.</P>

This research has analyzed factors affecting customers` satisfaction when they use parking lots of big retailers so that, in case of constructing, operating or managing such retailers, proper measures can be come up with. The analysis has been implemented on the basis of survey, and influence factors including entry/exit lamp, parking cars`` traffic flow, parking type, pedestrians`` movement after parking and safety. Parking lot users`` satisfaction has been analyzed by using the Structural Equation Modelling and, as a result of it, in case of a detached or single building, pedestrians movement flow after parking contributed the most to the users`` satisfaction, while, in case of multipurpose complex, parking cars traffic flow has the most influential factor. It is interpreted that users of a single building put a bigger emphasis on entry to the shop and their way back to the parked area after their shopping while customers of multipurpose complex might have various purposes of visiting the place and there are relatively more cars so that they put more emphasis on traffic counterflow, other cars and pedestrians.

Habitat changes of butterflies are caused by various factors, including food plants, natural enemies, and climate change. Recently, new habitats of the large copper have been reported on the Korean Peninsula, mostly along a riverside. This implies that this butterfly may move along a drainage system. In this study, new habitats of the large copper along the Geum River were investigated and the population dynamics of the butterfly were monitored in selected areas through the mark-release-recapture method. The results showed that the large copper had dispersed inland along the Geum River, which runs along the central western seashore of South Korea. In addition, the habitat distribution of the butterfly showed good coincidence with the distribution of a sorrel, Rumex japonicas, the main food plant of the large copper. A study on the moving distance of the butterfly showed that females moved further than males, while males showed more frequent movement within a short distance. The movement of the large copper along the Geum River, which lies over 100 km south of the Han River (a habitat previously reported in 1973), suggests that the movement of the butterfly might be more affected by human activities, such as the development of bike paths along the Geum River and maintenance of the riverbed, than climate change.

<P>The High Expression Of Osmotically Responsive Gene 15–Evening Complex–histone deacetylase 9 histone-modifying complex regulates photoperiodic flowering via transcriptional repression of <I>GIGANTEA</I>.</P><P>In plants, seasonal inputs such as photoperiod and temperature modulate the plant’s internal genetic program to regulate the timing of the developmental transition from vegetative to reproductive growth. This regulation of the floral transition involves chromatin remodeling, including covalent modification of histones. Here, we report that HIGH EXPRESSION OF OSMOTICALLY RESPONSIVE GENE 15 (HOS15), a WD40 repeat protein, associates with a histone deacetylase complex to repress transcription of the <I>GIGANTEA</I> (<I>GI</I>)-mediated photoperiodic flowering pathway in Arabidopsis (<I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I>). Loss of function of HOS15 confers early flowering under long-day conditions because elevated <I>GI</I> expression. LUX ARRHYTHMO (LUX), a DNA binding transcription factor and component of the Evening Complex (EC), is important for the binding of HOS15 to the <I>GI</I> promoter. In wild type, HOS15 associates with the EC components LUX, EARLY FLOWERING 3 (ELF3), and ELF4 and the histone deacetylase HDA9 at the <I>GI</I> promoter, resulting in histone deacetylation and reduced <I>GI</I> expression. In the <I>hos15-2</I> mutant, the levels of histone acetylation are elevated at the <I>GI</I> promoter, resulting in increased <I>GI</I> expression. Our data suggest that the HOS15–EC–HDA9 histone-modifying complex regulates photoperiodic flowering via the transcriptional repression of <I>GI</I>.</P>
Non-Contact Ultrasonic Inspection Technology of Fillet Weldments Monitoring
Park, Ik Keun,Kim, Hyun Mook,Park, Tae Sung,Kim, Yong Kwon,Cho, Yong Sang,Song, Won Joon Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2006 Key Engineering Materials Vol.321 No.-
<P>It's not easy to detect the defects in fillet weldment which is widely used in various building structures and power plants just with nondestructive inspection due to its complex geometrical shape and difficult access. But it's easy to detect the cracks on the surface or just below the surface of fillet weldment heel part if surface SH-wave, among ultrasonic wave modes, is applied. The traditional ultrasound inspection using surface SH-wave is usually a contact method using piezoelectric transducer, so it's not suitable for a field application because the reliability of inspection varies depending on field environments such as couplant, contact pressure and pre-process, etc. Therefore, the necessity for non-contact ultrasound inspection is increasing. This study proposes non-contact ultrasound inspection method using EMAT (electro-magnetic acoustic transducer), and presented non-contact ultrasound inspection method for fillet weldment through experimental verification.</P>
