The aim of this study is to examine the behavior of protected and unprotected steel–concrete composite I-beams with large cell diameters (D 0 /H = 0.7) and closely spaced cell confi gurations under the ISO 834 fi re curve. Previous studies on experimental full-scale fi re performances of cellular beams have been somewhat limited under vertical service loads and diff erent insulation properties. To address this limitation, a total of four composite beams, two unprotected (one beam with a solid web, and one cellular beam) and two protected cellular beams (60 min fi re resistance with implementation of water and solvent-based intumescent coatings) were tested. As outputs of the tests, the failure modes observed, such as web buckling, the Vierendeel eff ect, the slab behavior, including the mechanism of concrete cracking, the overall displacement behavior (i.e., defl ected shapes) up to collapse at very large defl ections, and temperature changes in the steel elements are discussed. It was concluded that the quality of the intumescent coating applied is crucial in achieving the desired fi re resistance. Experiments showed that unprotected trapezoid deck voids did not have a decisive infl uence on the behavior of the beams for up to 60 min of fi re testing. At high temperatures, similar crack patterns occurred in the composite slabs of the protected and unprotected steel–concrete composite cellular beams. In the protected beams, the behavior of reactive coatings was signifi cant and resulted in a non-uniform temperature distribution in these beams’ web and fl anges.
Byzantine Monuments in Mediterranean in the Light of Cultural Heritage
Irfan Ozcan,Sevcan Yıldız,Pınar Celik 세계문화관광학회 2010 Conference Proceedings Vol.11 No.0
Cultural heritage can be defined as the most important heritage which are abstract or concrete and left from ancient societies. Concrete heritage mostly include cities, monuments, statues and castles. On the other hand abstract heritage is about culture. The interaction between culture and development has complicated and dynamic structure. Culture is formed by beliefs, values, behaviours, traditions which affect the social life style of a society. Cultural heritage gains different experiences by interacting with other societies along with the modernization and urbanization. Thus conserving cultural heritage is vitally important. In this study the importance of conservation from different sides will be emphasised and concrete Byzantine Monuments in Mediterranean Region will be studied by the help of secondary data. In this context the monuments in Turkey are determined and Byzantine cultural heritage was analysed in the borders of Mediterranean Region. Besides the importance of cultural heritage for societies is emphasised, the ideas of local authorities, local people, and visitors‘ ideas about the cultural heritage sites are mentioned and finally some suggestions are made.
